My friends introduced me to Katie at a Superbowl party years ago...

Her straw blonde hair was brushing the middle of her back. With blue and white paint smeared on her face. Her smile was bright and glowing almost. She was one of the few girls that I knew that liked football. She was friends with practically everyone at the party. Around that time, me and Liv had hit a wall in our relationship. The passion was missing and she was always busy with school--I don't know, I just felt left out a lot of the time.

But, Katie? I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was like a breath of fresh air. I knew we wouldn't have to have deep discussions about race and stuff like that--Not like it was ever a problem to have those deep conversations, they were just taxing sometimes. Sometimes I just didn't want to think about the raging injustice black Americans face on the daily. And that's all she wanted to talk about--well it didn't help that she was studying in African-American studies as a minor. Olivia always talked about being a part of something much bigger than herself.

But, anyway, Liv was supposed to come to this Superbowl party but was trapped in a study group session. So, I went alone. I didn't really pay much attention to the game though. I spent most of the night chatting with Katie. She was such a sweet and funny person.

"Yeah! That's such a great movie!" Katie laughed loudly. I had learned that Katie loved action movies just as much as I did. We were hitting it off pretty well--harmless flirting, really. She had a rosy face and straight teeth. I had also learned that she came from a pretty wealthy family. Old money. I could tell she never had to work hard for a lot of what she had. Which made me think about Olivia for some reason.

Olivia came from Southeast D.C. and I lived on the North side, she worked everyday in high school and college to help her parents take care of her younger siblings. She was literally one of the hardest working people I've ever met. Liv worked hard for every dollar she earned.

"Did you wanna come back to my place and watch a movie?" Katie asked with a sweet smile on her face. I know I should say 'no.' That nothing good was ever going to come from this. I opened my mouth and said:

"Yeah, definitely."

We didn't bother to watch the rest of the game before she led me back to her apartment. Her apartment was small and cozy. She had family photos all over her fireplace mantle and Bible quotes on the walls. "Have a seat. Want a drink?" She asked politely as she removed her shoes. It was a pretty upscale apartment with high-grade appliances and large windows. This place blew the shitty little apartment I shared with Liv.

She put on the movie and we snuggled on the couch together. It was nice and comfortable. Katie felt really nice in his arms almost as if she belonged there. And her hair smelled light and airy--kinda like sunshine. Her blonde hair spread across my chest as she laid her head there. Her hand stroked my thigh. She tilted her head in my direction, he ocean eyes really captivated me. Her eye zeroed in on my lips and she leaned forward to lay a slow kiss on my lips. Her lips were pink and soft. We kissed for what felt like an eternity, I took charge and laid her against her couch and began to kiss her neck softly.

Katie moaned softly. We ended up getting so carried away that when we 'finished' I had fell asleep on her couch. The sun was beginning to rise and I knew I was in deep shit. I checked my phone and saw a lot of missed calls and texts from Liv. "Shit." I whispered. I grabbed the clothes that were no longer on my body and scrambled out of the door.

Olivia was fucking pissed when I got home. She was getting ready for class when she saw me walk through the door. "Where were you?" She asked sternly with her arms crossed. I gulped nervously. Liv had a way of knowing the truth without it ever leaving your mouth.

"I got super drunk at the party and Joel let me crash." I spit out. She narrowed her eyes, trying to catch me in my lie.

"Okay." She said as she picked up her backpack and left. I let out a breath, never again. I would never, ever put myself in that kinda of situation again. I love Liv. I know I do, I just had a moment of weakness.

Except it was the last time I saw Katie.

~~Present Day~~

It was currently Saturday and I was watching her while she sat at her window in her apartment. Her wild curls were pulled out of her face as she sipped on tea--because she wasn't a big fan of coffee. I admired her brass-like skin and her natural glow. I told Katie that I had to run to the store for something but, I made a detour--and by detour, I mean a 20 minute drive downtown. And there she was. Soaking up the sun by her window like a little plant. I mustered up the courage to get out my car and walk into her apartment building. She apartment was 308. I knocked a few times and waited patiently. The door swung open and there she was. She wore a loose fitting tank top and sleep shorts.

"Do I need to get a restraining order on you?" She asked as she raised her eyebrow.

"Go to dinner with me!" I asked hurriedly.

"Cole-"

"I won't stop. I'll just come back, everyday for the rest of my life. And if you leave, I'll find you and drag you back to me." I stepped forward and grasped her face in my hands, I kissed her cheeks and her lips. Her eyes were the size of saucers at this point. "And if you let me..." I whispered as I nuzzled into her neck, "I could fuck you so hard, you won't even have the mental capacity to ever think of fucking another man, ever." I kissed the column of her neck as she moaned softly, "Do you hear me?" I asked as I looked down into her eyes.

"Get the fuck out." She seethed as she shoved me out of her threshold and slammed the door in my face. I banged my fist on the door a few times more.

"Liv! Open the door!"

"Cole, I swear to God! Leave!"

"Fuck." I whispered as I trailed off to my car. I started the engine and drove off home. I'll just try again tomorrow.
