Chapter 2
I push through the torrent of people just coming out of their classes. It doesn't take me long to find the small stairway that leads to the Academy's roof. After all, it's what I was trained to do, find higher ground, set up your rifle, eliminate the target, and walk away like nothing's ever happened. As soon as I sit down to enjoy the warm sun om my face, I hear the sound of the door that leads to the roof open. It's the tall boy from before, Makoto.
"Guess you enjoy the silence, too, don't you, new girl?" he says, squinting because of the sun.
"Don't think for a moment I'm inferior to you because I'm new here. I'll put a bullet through your head before you can scream for help," I say, furious.
"Hey, hey, no need to get hostile, I'm just trying to be your friend. Honestly, you look like you could use some."
"I don't need friends. You just become attached, and it's harder to kill them later if you have to."
"Whatever you say...Aza. Mind if I join you?"
"Fine, just-just don't speak. I want silence."
"I'll shut up, then," he says, a hurt look on his face.
I didn't mean to hurt him, to be totally honest, he's my favorite person at this school right now.
