"Kai! Over here!" Beomgyu screamed, waving at Hyebin and Kai who were walking down the corridor in search of us."Hey, guys!" Kai grinned.
"Aww!" I pinched his cheeks. "You're so frickin cute!" I teased.
"And you're so freakin annoying," he said, slapping my hand.
"Come here, big guy!" I managed to get an arm around his neck. It wasn't the easiest thing to do since he was almost 6 feet tall and I was only 5'3".
"Oi! What are you doing!?" He laughed, as I dragged him along the passage and back.
"Stop messing around!" Taehyun laughed as he pulled Kai's hoodie. "Where's Soobin?"
"Beomgyu, where's 'Soobin-oppa'?" I pulled his sleeve.
"Ah! I don't know!" He whined.
That's when Soobin walked out of the class and towards us. But he wasn't alone. The new guy was walking right beside him, looking at anything but us.
"Um..." Kai shot a questioning look at Soobin.
"Guys," Soobin smiled brightly. "He will be joining us for lunch, starting today," he said, as he gave the dude an encouraging pat on his back.
None of the guys seemed to be overly excited about the fact that he was joining us.
Kai and Hyebin just stared at the dude, probably trying to figure how the hell Soobin knew someone wearing an ear piercing.
Beomgyu still wasn't over the fact that 'Soobin-oppa' ditched him for a complete stranger and therefore kept his mouth shut.
Taehyun looked at me awkwardly, and I could only shrug in return. Normally, I would be the one to ease the atmosphere in a situation like this, but I wasn't sure how I should defend a complete stranger!
I mean, I don't even remember his name! What was it again? Yangjun!?
I noticed a shadow fall on his face as I looked at him. He had sensed the negative, unsupportive aura.
"Alright, then! Let's go!" Soobin said, before anyone could raise anymore eyebrows at 'Yangjun'.
The boy's straight face did not change, despite the stiffening of his body. Soobin decided to put a supportive arm around his shoulders.
Why was he being so nice to this guy? Soobin was shy around strangers. Beomgyu was the friendly one. The tables have turned.
But what puzzled me was, Soobin did not see guys who had their ears pierced, in a good light. I'm sure his parents would think the same. He's from a chaebol family, just like us. And his parents did whatever it took to raise Soobin decently.Associating Beomgyu, Taehyun, Kai and Soobin wasn't something just anyone was permitted to do. They gave off the 'rich kids' vibe and they weren't a group that mingled with anyone. It's not that they criticized people who were of lower social status; it's just that, even though other kids longed to join our clique they would just end up developing an inferiority complex and then that would eventually lead to conflicts.
My parents and Taehyun's, are partners in business and we knew each other since our baby days, because our parents were very good friends as well.
It was pretty clear that these guys were having second thoughts about letting the new guy join us for lunch, not because they thought he wasn't upto their standards; they wouldn't mind that at all; it was merely because his ears were pierced and he looked pretty intimidating with that grim expression that he always wore.
However, no matter what our opinions were, he was definitely gonna join us for lunch, since Soobin had the larger fraction of the authority in the group. He wasn't demanding, but no one seemed to see any flaws in his decisions and suggestions. He was also the oldest, which made him gain more authority effortlessly.
