End of 2018 I worked with a screenplay story consultant, Jen Grisanti. I made some changes and with her help, it became an even better property. I'm currently querying for representation or more from those who might be interested.
I have high hopes for this piece as I keep getting comments from professionals that they like it a lot, that it should go into production and one even said he was surprised it wasn't already on a screen somewhere. High praise indeed!
UPDATE 2020 June - I now have producer Robert Mitas attached to the project. He has produced films with actor/producer Michael Douglas. He is also head of the Originals department at Voyage Media. Last year with his producer input I rewrote The Teenage bodyguard into a shorter and tighter screenplay. We signed an agreement contract in October 2020 for a year. Seven months into that he said there were issues with getting people interested as it was a period piece, set in 1974.
We had originally discussed that possibility. There is a push in indies for single location films. The money just isn't there for indies like it was back in say the 1990s. So I updated the screenplay to 2019, where people now have cell phones, the music is different and computers exist. That is too bad in a way as the 74 atmosphere is pretty cool. Consider shows like HBO's The Duece. A great series about the beginning of the modern porno industry with Maggie Gyllenhaal. (
Also, a local Pacific Northwest true crime podcast, Scene of the Crime (http://sceneofthecrimepodcast/enterprise), has just released a new episode titled, Enterprise, about this story. I contacted them and they were interested. So they interviewed Gordie and it is now available with some interesting content. Some I had not known about as they contacted the previous Mayor of Tacoma, WA from back in the day to get his perspective.
Producer Robert Mitas was excited about this podcast and now the new screenplay is out and available. We've made some good progress and the only hope now is, we find the right director and studio to produce it, or network to purchase it.
I have taken this project from a whim many years ago, to as far as I can take it before seeing it sold and produced. But the job isn't over... yet. Not until the cameras start rolling...
