taehyung had reached his breaking point. he couldn't keep going on in the way he had been. stealing food and sleeping in a closet every night wasn't working for him- even if it had only been a few months, that was still enough to drive him mad.
he needed to find somewhere else to stay.
he knew jimin wasn't an option, because mentally he knew staying at his house would just make him feel worse. he knew that if he stayed with jimin, his negative self-talk and negative thoughts that he had desperately been trying to escape from would only increase. taehyung's worst fear was burdening other people that he cared about with his presence, even if he wasn't actually a burden at all.
at his current state, taehyung had honestly become terrified of himself. he was terrified of what he might do and he needed change immediately.
because of those fears, he decided to go with the only idea he had. it would be risky and dangerous, but he didn't really have another option.
taehyung's plan was to sneak into a huge house and stay in an unused room. he would have a place to sleep and he would have easy access to food.
while taehyung knew that there was a pretty decent chance this plan would backfire completely, he really didn't care anymore.
he was so close to ending it all anyway, so he figured he might as well just give himself one last chance.
if he could just stay under the radar for a little while in a comfortable bed, with a space to wash up, and some food, maybe he would be alright. maybe he could find the motivation to live again. as dark as it was, taehyung needed to be reminded why life was even worth living anymore.
this was really his only chance.
with that, he packed all his most important items into bags, grabbed his phone, and headed off, leaving the lights and empty closet behind.

as psychotic as it may have seemed, taehyung spent the next several hours of the night walking around a neighborhood of huge homes, attempting to see if any of their back doors were unlocked.
taehyung felt weirdly empty and hallow while he was doing what he was doing. usually, any normal person would feel terrified that they'd be caught— they would be so apprehensive. but in that moment, taehyung didn't feel any fear over what he was doing. he wasn't afraid, because he really didn't care about the consequences anymore. the only thought rushing through his head was "sleep" and that was all he was focused on.
and it wasn't until morning just about hit that he was down to one house left in the neighborhood that he was scanning.
the more hours that passed and the more locked doors he came across, the more his mind began to clear. at this point, taehyung was starting to consider ditching the plan altogether.
it was stupid, anyway.
no one in their right mind just sneaks into someone's house and starts living there. it was ridiculous, really. and the odds of taehyung actually getting away with it without ending up thrown in prison were close to zero. he was probably better off just giving up.
he knew he should just stop— just go back to the library closet at school.
he knew that.
but something in him just had to check the last house.
just one more.
tae continued walking up the hill and landed in front of a huge brown house. it was almost surreal, and taehyung wasn't sure if he had ever seen a house as big and fancy as this one in person.
there were no cars parked in the front, so he hoped that meant nobody was home.
with that, he headed to the back door quickly and hesitated for a moment.
it was a house on a hill, so he knew if— by the grace of god— this door opened, it would lead him directly to the home owners basement.
that was good.
he brought his hand up and grasped onto the knob, taking a deep breath. he twisted it slowly and gasped when he heard a click and saw that the door was now cracked open.
he now had direct access to the house and all he had to do was walk in.
"shit," taehyung muttered, almost wishing that it had been locked.
he had made it this far.
he couldn't turn back now.
even just a few nights in a normal bed would suffice. if he could just stay there for a little while, until he could get a job.., get back on his feet, then he would leave.
no one would ever find out.
he'd make sure of it.
so without another thought, tae stepped inside quietly, looking left and right.
he was trying to keep his breathing steady, but he couldn't.
he was terrified.
that's when tae's mind flashed back to all the restless nights he had; sleeping on the hard ground, shivering under his useless blankets, waking up with migraines, always being so fucking starving.
tae composed himself and shut the door behind him. he slipped off his muddy shoes and held them in his hands, starting to look around the room. it was a huge living room area with a bar and a long hallway. he quietly walked around, looking for a place to set up camp.
he kept on walking down different hallways and looking in different rooms, figuring he was bound to get lost at some point with the infinite amount of paths to take.
he continued walking around the basement, until he landed at the perfect place.
a guest room.
"perfect," tae whispered.
he walked in and shut the door quietly behind him. he set his things down to give his arms a break and walked over to the nightstand.
he paused for a moment, before lifting a hand and swiping a finger over the dresser, looking down to see the pad was now covered in dust.
he smirked at that, figuring this room wasn't used too often. and the fact that it was at the end of a million-mile hallway on the bottom floor of the house only made taehyung more confident that he wouldn't be caught.
something about it was destiny.
he was supposed to stay in that guest room.
god or whoever was looking after him gifted taehyung this room and it would be a sin for him to not take advantage of it.
so, without another thought, taehyung jumped onto the bed. he rolled around with a big smirk on his face. he hadn't felt the comfort of a bed in a long time. even on the lucky occasion that he would sleep over at jimins, they would usually sleep on the couch in the living room.
and even jimin's bed didn't feel like this. this bed was fluffy, and soft, and rich, and his.
and he would be sleeping in it tonight.
taehyung laid in bliss for another minute, before his mind started drifting off to how he would explain to jimin what was going on.
jimin.
he almost completely forgot jimin was upset with him.
taehyung quickly ran to his backpack. he pulled out his phone and began to write jimin a text.
taehyung
i'm sorry about what i said yesterday, i didn't mean it. i won't be at school today, but i'll explain everything later.taehyung anxiously waited for jimin's response, eventually frowning when he saw the reply.
jimin
k.with a sigh, tae slipped his phone back into his bag.
