A/N:Aaaahhhh! Oh my god, I am so sorry! It's been way too long!
So... here's my excuse. As I hope you know, I asked those of you who follow me which story you would like me to update next. I updated the first response I got, and my second response was to update "A Terrible Fate". So, over I go, fully intending on doing just that, only to run into my old friend writer's block. Ugh! (Here's to you @fanofbooks020508, I haven't forgotten about you)
After that fiasco and a few days of me trying and failing to write, I started communicating with the wonderful @puplover18 who has given me my beautiful new cover. They sent me the new cover, and I was like 'great! I'll update it today or tomorrow'. Time skip to like a month later, I'm in Singapore with no wifi, yelling at myself because I haven't done shit even though I said I would. (*sigh) So I'm in Thailand now on a beach vacation with my family, so I have no excuse!
So anyway, sorry about that. Here's my shoutout to any of you guys who pestered me about updating. You all are literally the only reason I ever get anything done.
Goodbye my lovelies! :3
"And where were you?", Batman asked, a dangerous undertone to his voice, as soon as his protege stepped through the door. "You are not authorised to leave the cave on missions without League—". Abruptly, he stopped talking as the rest of the Young Justice team filed in... plus one more.
His eyes widened, and all his senses immediately went on high alert.
"Who's that?", Green Arrow asked the Black Canary after a few moments of tense silence. After all, it wasn't everyday someone could make the Bats freeze up like that.
Shaking himself out of the stupor that had set in after seeing his protege so close to such a dangerous individual, he immediately unclipped and threw three batarangs towards her with the intention of at least knocking her away from them. If the survivors' eye-witness accounts were anything to be believed, this woman (whoever she was) was powerful.
Behind him, he could feel the rest of the present League members lurch forward in surprise at his suddenly aggressive actions. Fortunately, their concern proved to be unwarranted, as the apparently detained vigilante caught or dodged all three before she could even get a scratch on her.
The metal projectiles along with her handcuffs clattered to the ground, painfully loud in the shocked silence.
"Non-lethal shots. Some anti-hero you turned out to be". Her head tilted to the side slightly, unnerving eyes flickering to each member of the league in turn before coming back to settle on Batman. "Creature of darkness my ass", she muttered.
Flash snorted, though he paled and frantically covered up his laughter with a fake coughing fit as Batman's glare was turned on him.
"Batman, who is she?", Green Arrow asked again, more insistently this time.
Before Batman could reply, however, he was cut off by the woman in question herself. "Oh, I'm no one", she said, taking a few steps forward and pacing in the area between her supposed captors and their mentors. "However, I believe the police have code names me Siren".
Immediately, all movement in the room stopped. Then, like an alarmed ripple, every League member readied their weapons and pointed them at her, immobilizing her in the center of a circle they had formed along with their protégés. Well... all except for two that is.
Aquaman and Aqualad shared a glance nobody else could understand before suddenly breaking off from their respective groups and turning to face them, seemingly protecting her from their friends and allies.
