"Charlotte," my mom whispered in my ear. "Honey, it's time to wake up. Your first day of sophomore year is here!" She exclaimed excitedly. She seemed much happier about it than me. I could feel my eyelids becoming heavy again and tried to go back to sleep, but that was hard to do with my mom shaking me like a maniac.
"OK mom. I'm up. Now please go so I can get dressed," I said aggravated. Once she left, I got dressed in a floral-patterned shirt, some jeans, and straightened my annoyingly frizzy, brown hair. I then grabbed my pink converse and ran downstairs to the kitchen.
Once there, a nice aroma hit me. My mom was cooking some sizzling bacon and pancakes that made my mouth water. I was surprised that my mom had cooked this because she wasn't much of a cook. Anything she made was usually burned, so she gave up cooking for a few years.
"This looks delicious! Why are you making it?" I asked, curiously.
"Well, I though you would enjoy this for your first day of school... Plus Charlie and Blake are coming over. Blake promised to take you and Charlie to school everyday, so this is a "thank you" for him." Once she said Blake, butterflies fluttered around in my stomach. Oh goodness, did my hair look ok? Did I look cute? What would--
I didn't get to finish my thoughts because Charlie and Blake barged in like they owned the place.
"Hi Barbara. I'm so hungry!" Blake growled. Charlie and him started grabbing as much food as they could fit in their hands. They looked like a pack of wolves that had just found a meal.
"Pigs!" I said. They both looked at me and smiled with bacon-filled mouths. I rolled my eyes and went over to the plate. They only left me two pieces of bacon and one pancake.
"What gentlemen you are." I stated. They just sat there still smiling. Weirdos, I thought.
Once we were done eating, Blake told us it was time to go to school. Charlie and I looked at each other and groaned.
"Fine," I whined. "I call shotgun!" I yelled, and Charlie raced me to the car.
"You guys are such kids." Blake said laughing.
I beat Charlie. After all, I am much more athletic than he is. He prefers video games, to playing sports.
"Dang bro! She whooped you! You need to start working out with me." Blake stated, and looked over to me. He laughed, and I giggled. Charlie just glared at Blake.
In the car, Blake was telling me this funny story about how he accidentally walked into the girl's restroom. He said that when he walked in, a girl was singing and dancing at the sink. She got really embarrassed and started yelling at Blake to get out. I busted out laughing and couldn't stop. I loved the way he looks at me.
He has the prettiest brown eyes I have ever seen. They have gold in them. He also has wavy brown hair. It kind of looks like Zac Efron's, but not exactly. He doesn't dress like the typical popular guy. Instead he dresses in a long sleeved button down shirt that he rolls up to his elbows. Under that shirt, he wears a white under shirt. He's always wearing pants, even during the summer, with a belt and nice dress shoes. Since he's a popular junior, all the girls fall in love with him.
Charlie, on the other hand, has blond hair. No one knows where he got it because everyone in their family is brunette. It makes him unique. Charlie also has the beautiful brown eyes. He usually wears an Abercrombie shirt, with jeans, and sneakers.
Anyways, I couldn't stop giggling. When I turned around, Charlie was staring at me. He had this sad face like something was wrong, but I didn't know what. Once he saw that I was looking at him, he tried covering his sad face with a smile, but I didn't buy it.
"Charlie, are you OK?" I asked, worried and concerned.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Keep talking to your best friend." He said harshly. Dude, what was his problem? Was he jealous of Blake? I didn't do anything wrong.. Not that I know of, anyways.
"Rude much?" I asked.
"Yeah. Who peed in you Cheerios? You don't have to be mean. She was just checking on you." Blake stated. Oh my goodness. Blake just stuck up for me. The guy who always annoys and teases me, just stuck up for me. How sweet of him! It makes me like him even more.
"Whatever." Charlie said, crossing his arms.
The rest of the ride was awkward. No one talked. I looked into the mirror to find Charlie shooting daggers at Blake. Luckily Blake didn't see because who knows what he would've done. Charlie needs to chill out. I'm glad he's not mad at me, but why is he mad at Blake? Was it because Blake said I whooped him during the race? Or is he jealous? Does he feel like I am leaving him for Blake? Whatever it is, he needs to let it go. I will always be his best friend, and Blake was only joking with him.
Once we finally reached Rosewood High, crowds of people were walking in. We had a tough time parking, but after a few minutes, we found a spot.
Then, Blake caught up with a bunch of his football friends, leaving Charlie and I alone. We were both silent and decided to go inside the school. I recognized a few faces, but others were a mystery.
"Y'all go get your schedules over there," a plump lady told us, directing where to go.
"I'm Charlotte Clearly." I rushed. The lady doing schedules, handed me mine. Once Charlie got his, we started talking again, and compared schedules. That's the thing with us... We can't stay mad at each other for more than an hour.
We had geometry first period, world history last period, and lunch together. That means I start and finish school with Charlie... Woohoo... Not. It's not that I don't like him, he can just get annoying.
Charlie didn't like how he was in robotics, so I told him he should join soccer because than he might have a chance at at least tying me when we race.
"Ha ha. Very funny. But I'll give it a shot. After all, I do need to beat you at least once," Charlie replied.
"Ha ha... Joining soccer will make you faster, but I don't think you will ever beat me." I teased, poking him. His cheeks suddenly became pink. He was staring at me with a twinkle in his eye. What was that about?
"Uh, we should go to geometry." I said quietly.
"Oh, yeah," Charlie said as though he were in deep thought. "Lets go."
