The same mysterous letter lay neglected on the Petersons uneventful front porch.
People went in and out of the home every once and a while, but gave the letter no mind besides a negligent passing glance, not bothering to pick it up.
Until Sarah Peterson, Kira and Tom Peterson's youngest child, burst into the family home holding the letter in her slobbering mouth.
Sarah was less like a daughter and more like a dog, as Mr. and Mrs. Peterson often discussed jokingly. She would sit on the floor, scratching her head and sniffing everyone and everything, which the doctors reassured Kira that it must be nothing but a childish phase, though, it was certainly a strange one.
"What has our girl got this time?"
Tom took the letter from her mouth, walking over and wiping the drool off on Kira's apron.
"I didn't know we had any friends in Larkville! Is it someone from the office?"
Kira glanced at the address and then back at her freshly baked cookies. It was an extremely serious and dire task to pick the best chocolate chip cookie, as everyone knows. She finally selected a delicious looking dessert, but it crumbled in her fingers, as if sending her a message that it would have rather remained as cookie dough. For, as everyone knows, cookie dough by itself is way better than the cookies once they are baked.
"Well, what does it say dear?"
"It looks like we are going to a dinner party"
Tom exclaimed, a grin spreading across his face. It seemed like it had been years since Kira and Tom had gotten away from the house and away from their rambunctious, constantly sugar high children.
"Why let's take Trevor with us! That boy never leaves the house let alone leaves his room." Kira shook her finger in disappointment as if giving Trevor a lecture, even though Trevor was nowhere near.
"Well then, it look as if we've got a date!"
"Plus Trevor of course." Kira reminded him.
Tom groaned quietly, wishing life could go back to before they were married. Their dating years were filled with bliss, butterflies in your stomach, and NO. CHILDREN.
It really had been forever since he had been alone with Kira, besides to sleep, of course, but he wasn't going to complain. Trevor had always been Kira's favorite child, and he sure needed some time out of the house anyway rather than just playing videogames in the basement.
He popped some cookie dough in his mouth and headed to him and Kira's bedroom to pick out a nice tie for the spontaneous dinner party.
