The next morning Will's room filled with light, light that flooded his dark walls and crept along his face. His cheeks glimmered with sweat and slowly, groggily, his eyelids lifted. His hands swept the side table in search of his glasses. He discovered their where-abouts when he heard them clatter to the floor. Sighing, Will lay back in defeat, he even considered going back to sleep for a second or two before the bark of a dog or 10 brought him to his feet.
"did...did Dr Lecter let my dogs in last night..."
By the time his morning coffee was ready, and his charred toast had erupted from the toaster, WIll had convinced himself last night's events were a dream. He'd probably been sleep walking, got up early and let the dogs in himself. Dr Lecter didn't have his address and even if he did, why would he visit him at 5 am on a Wednesday morning?
Convinced of the falsity of his delusions, Will set off for work. Yesterday's class was rough, but this morning Will was fully caffeinated and ready to teach.
Glasses pushed up on his nose, Will took a deep breathe as he pushed open the thick wooden doors of his lecture theatre. He flipped open his laptop, greeting his class as he set up that day's dose of disturbing photos on the big screen.
"Good morning everyone. If you're not wide awake already, you will be soon enough. This is Lisa Jennings, though she doesn't look too much...much...like him-herself..."
Will's voice faded from a bold echo to a husky whisper. He squinted into the darkness in front of him, trying to determine what he'd seen.
No, he wasn't hallucinating. Sat two rows ahead of him was Doctor Hannibal Lecter.
