You're met with silence from upstairs which you fill by sarcastically replying to yourself.
"Bye (y/n) have a great first day back. I'm so proud of you, I love you sooo much."
You slam the door, hoping it will wake your girlfriend up if she's still sleeping.
Fuck you.
You slam your car door too before making the familiar trip back to work, anxiety swirling around in your stomach.

"Hey, you're back!"
Your best friend Hannah wraps her arms around your waist from behind, giving you a squeeze.
She is the only person who makes this place bearable.
You squeeze her hand with one arm as you pour yourself a coffee with the other.
"I missed you "
"I missed you too.
Mike makes lousy coffee."
Hannah pushes her mug towards you before turning to your co-worker, flashing him a cheeky grin as he sticks his middle finger up at her.
You hand your friend her mug as you both join Mike at one of the tables.
"Welcome back to hell-" he jokes, "-ready to meet the new boss?"
Oh fuck.
You get another anxiety swirl in your stomach, you'd completely forgotten you have a new boss.
Hannah snaps you out of your daydream, "that's your phone going off isn't it?"
You jump up, running to your desk, it's still as messy as you'd left it.
"H-hello?"
You're met with the stern, low-register voice of a woman at the other end.
"Hello (y/n).
Is that how you answer all business calls to this line?"
Shit is this my new boss?!
