Letter Four
Dear Will,
You asked me to come over and help you with your English assignment, one week after you said my name.
I was sitting on my bed when my cell phone started to ring and I almost jumped out of surprise because I don't have an abundance of friends and getting a phone call from anyone other than my parents is unlikely and rare.
Nevertheless, I picked up and I was glad I did. My name was the first word you said and so I instantly knew it was you. I paced while you explained your problems to me over the phone and I wondered if you thought about me in your spare time. I absentmindedly started doodling your name on the corner of my sheet while talking to you and then blushed when I realized what I had done.
I laid on my bed, then on my bedroom floor. My legs were up in the air and then they were down. I stared at my short nails and pictured your pretty face. I twirled my hair and played with my earring. I placed my hand on my thigh and imagined it was yours, but then even though you weren't in the room, I felt embarrassed so I quickly removed it.
You asked if I was free the next Friday and I pretended to think, because I didn't want to seem too eager. Even though I was bursting with joy and would gladly cancel any plans I may have made.
A study date, is what you called it.
You and me, alone in your house?
A suicide mission, is what I called it. (Secretly, of course)
Yours truly,
Anna
