"Let her go." I spoke through clenched teeth.
He shook his head, his one eye glinting in cruel glee. "I think not. I've learned from your little 'Nobody' act, so it's pointless to reuse that stupid trick."
"Let her go." I ordered more forcefully, my hand unconsciously went to my pocket. I let out a soft growl. Dammit, where was Riptide when I needed it?
He threw back his head and let out a guttural laugh. "You think petty words will save her? You're pathetic." He spat out the last word.
I dared to glance at Annabeth, who was squirming in the monster's grasp, trying to escape.
"To Tartarus with this." I cursed. I did a quick 180 scan of my surroundings, trying to locate any weapon. I didn't care if it was a hanger or something. There was only one thing available.
A broken stick.
Just my luck, I took a deep breath. But...I can work with this.
I lunged for it. Apparently, the cyclops still had bad eyesight. I grasped it and charged at him. His lone eye widened in shock at my stupid, brave feat and was unable to react as I landed blow after blow on his side, shoulder and face.
A squeak and thump made my eyes drift to the side.
Annabeth.
Her eyes showed no emotion except fear. The last time i'd seen her this scared was in Tartarus. It clenched my heart to see her in a state like this.
That was my mistake. Just as I was about to turn my attention back to the monster, it used my momentary distraction as leverage. It swung its meaty arm at me, causing me to go airborne.
I hit the wall with a sickening crack. The breath was taken out of me. I deduced that one or two of my ribs were broken, but I had to fight on.
I used the wall as support and grunted in pain as I stood up shakily. I let out a pained breath and lunged at the monster once more. My broken ribs hindered me and I flew back as the monster hit me again.
I gasped in pain. In my peripheral vision, I saw Annabeth crawling away and...Jason!
He gave me a signal to distract Polyphemus while he attacks from behind with...a broom.
"Hey, Polyphemus!" I stood up and shouted at the top of my lungs to catch his attention."Say goodnight."
"Wha---" But before he could ask, lightning hit him and caused him to disintegrate, dark ichor stained a small crater of ash.
"That was easier than I expected..." I said, voicing my thoughts out loud.
"Easier?!" Annabeth asked in a slightly hysterical tone, completely scared out of her mind. "That was easy for you?! I had never been more scared in my entire life! That--That thing tried to crush me! And. I. Am. Not. Your. GIRLFRIEND!"
The last line stung a bit--okay--a lot---but, I couldn't dwell on that now. I had to act. "We can explain." I said. I guess my voice sounded like I was on the verge of tears because Jason patted my back and gave me a sympathetic look.
"Explain? EXPLAIN!?! I---"
"Annabeth." Jason cut her off. She looked at him, fear and panic evident in her eyes "Later. We'll explain everything." Annabeth would have said more but I ran away and headed to my cabin.mI know that this wasn't Camp anymore, but who knows? Maybe the cabins were still the same...
On the way, I felt something wet trailing down my cheek. I couldn't hold back my tears.
Campers gave me strange looks as I passed by but I merely ignored them. I didn't--I couldn't deal with them right now. Not when Annabeth, my girlfriend--my best friend, couldn't remember me.
Smoke invaded my senses. "What?" I mumbled. I wiped away the stray tears in my eyes and I let out a sound of surprise. The cabin area turned into a giant crater. In the place of cabins, were piles of ash. There were small fires scattered in different places. Only then did I see the rest of the Campers, staring at the horrid sight. "What in the name of Hades happened?"
