When the train stopped hours later, she had automatically befriended Hermione Granger. Their love for books and learning had immediately struck a bond between the two girls. The two walked off the train and she instinctively looked for a spot of red hair in the sea of dull colors. She spotted in and came down off her toes to try and make her way over to him. He was standing next to a giant man that towered, and I mean towered over her short frame. She sidled up to her cousin, consequently ending up next to Harry.

"Hello, Harry." The giant said to the green eyed boy next to her.

"Hey, Hagrid." The boy responded. Hagrid, that's what his name was.

"Whoaa!" Ron's gaze climbed up to Hagrid's face, making a sound of amazement at the same time Lydia mumbled, "bloody hell."

"Right then. This way to the boats! Come on, now, follow me." Hagrid's voice was white noise as she gazed in marvel at the grounds before her. Fred and George had told her stories of the castle but they never described how beautiful it was. Lydia was broken from her trance by Harry tugging on her hand, trying to get her to the boats.

As the first years climbed the stairs, which moved, a fact that Fred and George neglected to tell her. Each step she took she was mesmerized by the painting that talked and acted as if they were real, even though she had been around magic her entire life it still shocked her. As she looked above at the tall ceiling she didn't realize that the rest of the group had now stopped to look at an old woman that had a black pointed hat perched on her head. She wore green velvet robes, she had her hands folded neatly in front of her. Her eyes were trailing through the students' faces as she spoke.

"Welcome to Hogwarts." She spoke, her voice was uptight and strong. "Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats, you must be sorted into your houses." As she started to name the houses her eyes would land on random students as if she knew they were going to be there. "They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin." Her eyes hit Lydia as she named Gryffindor and Draco Malfoy as she named Slytherin. "Now while you're here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup." At this point in time, a scared looking boy that was standing beside Lydia had jumped forward and yelled something as he lunged for the toad. After he had gotten his pet, he gulped and looked up to see that he was at the feet of Professor McGonagall, quickly scurrying back to his original spot in the crowd. "The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." And with that, the woman walked off.

"It's true then, what they're saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." A loud voice spoke from the other side of the staircase from where Lydia stood. Harry's name sent murmurs throughout the crowd of children. "This is Crabbe and Goyle. And I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." Harry looks over at Lydia to see her trying to stifle a laugh after hearing the name.

Malfoy's head whips towards her cousin and she coughs, trying to disguise her humor.

"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley." At this point, Ron had to grab her arm and hold her back from lunging at Draco. "Well, soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there." Draco extends his hand towards Harry, inviting him to shake it. Harry glances down at it and then to Ron and Lydia.

"I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks." Harry replied sassily before Professor McGonagall taps on Malfoy's shoulder with a roll of parchment, clearing her throat almost sarcastically.

"We're ready for you now. Follow me."
