It's another regular day at school, but also my birthday — 17th to be exact. I have absolutely dreaded my birthday ever since I moved here. But being the popular girl does have its perks — presents. I don't usually take what they have for me, until last year when one of Ethan Dolan's friends — Jack Gilinsky, mother nature's best artwork — gave me a kitty. I didn't even know him at the time, but it was too cute to not accept. Which then, I broke the number one rule — never take things from nobodies. That means they think you're their friend and will be ALWAYS up your ass and always try to get in your friendship group. When it comes to my friendship group — don't ever say or do anything to piss them off, they will ruin you.

I roll out of bed just as my parents bursted through my door, they were both ready for work, which meant I was late for school. I scramble out of bed as they give me their presents to open. I put them to the side as they wish me a happy birthday and walk out of my room. I sit still and listen as the front door slams shut. I sigh to myself and get my outfit together — a very short pair of denim shorts, a plain white crop top with a denim jacket — Prada of course, and a pair of black thigh high boots. I sit in front of my vanity and start straightening my long black hair — yes, I dyed it a few months after i moved here. Once I'm finished with my hair, I put my contacts in and apply my layers of makeup — I never wore makeup before, but when boys came in the picture that all changed. You know how I said I only date college boys? Well, that's my brother's friends, but that never works out. He refuses me to date his friends because I'm "too much of a woman for them".
I hear a light knock on my front door and instantly knew it was Sam Wilkinson — Kalysta's boyfriend. I grab the sheets of homework I had and some textbooks, and shove them into my Prada handbag — one of my brother's designs, and drag myself downstairs. I make my way to the kitchen to see a three layer cake with two unlit candles — one and seven. I find some matches and light the candles and wait a few seconds. This is just like every year — my parents are always working and my brother never calls — so i have to celebrate on my own. I blow out the candle and hear someone yell out "Happy Birthday, Hristina". I jump and turn around only to be faced with my one and only twenty-three year old brother standing there with a huge smile on his face. I blink a couple times and sit still not knowing what to do or say.
"Are you just gonna sit there and not do anything?" — Gabriel says still having that cheeky grin on his face.
I sat there completely speechless when I heard Sam's loud car honk outside. I broke out of my stare and ran to hug him — my brother, the one person I though I'd never see again. I snuggled into his chest and let out a huge sigh. I pulled away after a few seconds and looked at the clock on the wall.
"Shit, I'm going to be late. I'll see and talk to you after school." — I tell him and start to walk towards the door — "Bye, Love you!"
"Love you too, Happy Birthday Hris." — That was all I heard him say before I slammed the door shut behind me.
I walked to Sam's car and got in. He looked over to me and flashed me his signature smile. I opened my mouth to say something when he cut me off.
"Happy Birthday Hristina." — And with that he pulled out of my driveaway and off to school.
