Vee

I woke up to someone nudging me in my ribs. I opened my eyes and Jenni was looking at me with a sleeping Jessica on her shoulder. Realising I slept with my earphones on, I took them off and rubbed my eyes.

"We're going to land soon," she said.

"Oh okay. I'm hungry though," I said.

Jenni giggled quietly. "When aren't you?"

I slapped her hand. "Hey. Food helps us live."

"Yeah, but people eat to live. Not live to eat," a sleepy Jessica said.

"Are you guys trying to say that I live to eat?" I said, trying to pretend shocked.

"Your words, not ours," Jenni replied to me before they both started snickering.

"You'll come begging me for food one day, you'll see. And that's when I won't give you any," I grinned.

"Sure Vee. Keep on dreaming," Jess said.

"We will be landing in Charles De Gaulle airport very soon. Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for landing," the lady's voice boomed through the speakers.

I clicked my seatbelt on and ran my fingers through my messy brown hair. I decided to put it in a messy bun to keep it out of my face. I felt like my lips were chapped so I put a coat of lip gloss on them too.

"Trying to impress any French boy?" Jessica asked before her and Jenni started giggling.

"As a matter of fact, yes," I teased. "Too bad you're not getting any."

Jessica opened her mouth to reply but we were interrupted by the landing of the plane which made the plane bounce up and down.

When we finally came to a smooth walk, I unbuckled my seatbelt and slung my backpack over my torso.

Jai

The three of us walked off the plane with Beau leading. We had to get our passports checked and then go to the baggage claim area. I had to admit I was a big nervous of the deal I made earlier with my brothers. But I had to do it.

I fixed my panda beanie over my hair and held my backpack as we walked through the airport. Luke and Beau were walking in front of me talking about something I probably didn't care about. Suddenly, a force and a splash of cold water on my shirt startled me. I stood off the ground and looked at my wet navy blue shirt.

"Fuck," I said.

"I'm so sorry, oh my god. I'm so clumsy, I'm such a klutz."

I looked up to see the most beautiful girl I've seen. Her light brown wavy hair was in a bun and I could tell it was long. Her soft pink lips that were turned into a frown and her brown eyes that were full of worry. I don't know why exactly, but I think I've seen her somewhere before.

Her two friends had stopped walking and so had Luke and Beau.

"It's alright. It's just water. I'll just go clean it up," I said with a smile.

She grinned and I realised she had a slight dimple on her right cheek. "I'll go with you."

She talked with her friends for a bit and then turned to me. Mine and Luke's eyes connected and I could sense what he was trying to say. 'She's the girl you have to play.'

I flinched at that thought. I didn't want to play her but I had to.

"Are you okay?"

I looked into her eyes and nodded as we both started walking to the bathrooms. "I didn't get your name."

She laughed. Her laugh was like music to my ears. Damn it Jai, get your head together. She's just another girl. I cursed myself under my breath.

"I'm Vee. And you are?"

"I'm Jai," I shot her a smile and I could tell she was falling for it from the dreamy look in her eyes.

If it was that easy for me to play with her, she'd fall effortlessly. The problem is that I couldn't fall for her. It would ruin the game.

"Oh Jai. I like that name. It was the name of my childhood friend."

"Yeah, me too. I mean, my childhood friend was named Vee."

When my mind processed the words, I was in complete shock.

"Jai? Jai Brooks?"

"Vee Jones?" I said my eyes wide.

We both stared at each other in shock. I was the first to break the silence. "You left."

She slowly nodded, tears springing to her eyes. "I left to Sydney."

"You didn't tell me you were moving," I simply stated. A flashback of that day still hurt me, even though I was only 6. I remembered that day so clearly.
