Do You Think I Wanted Any Of This?

"Do you think I wanted any of this?"Draco spat.
He was so close that Hermione could feel his every breath on her face.
"Do you think I would ever want to fall in love with someone who hates me?" He sounded defeated now as he raked his fingers through his hair.
Hermione didn't know what to say. She'd been so focused on the fact that be was a death eater, that he had lied to her about it.

Draco sat down on an empty desk, sighing heavily.

"I never wanted any of this. Being a death eater, you, this task. I'm not a killer Hermione."

There was pain in his eyes and Hermione felt her heart soften a bit. He had been nothing but repentant and kind to her ever since he caught her crying in an empty classroom that day months ago. She suspected his feelings for her and she had to be honest and say she cared for him too. It was a difficult situation though, because he had been so cruel to her for years.

She knew now that it stemmed from a place if insecurity and not hatred, but it was still a hard thing to get over.

"I know Draco. I just... it hurts that you lied to me."

"I shouldn't have done it, I know that, but I didn't want to ruin what was happening between us."

"But if you can't be honest with me, nothing can happen. I can't be in this with you if you lie to me."

"I understand that. It was a mistake, I promise I'll try to do better."

She noticed how he hadn't promised he wouldn't lie again, and she suspected he didn't dare to make that promise if he wasn't sure he could keep it.
