Jace's Pov:

"Bye Jess." I say giving Jess a quick smile before we part ways.

"See you later!" She laughs, "You're coming over tomorrow morning, yes?"

I nod and she pecks me on the cheek before scuttling into her house.

Jess is kind of my girlfriend. The term I like to use is 'Seeing each other' it doesn't sound so committed.

I ring Theo as usual. He has to pick me up nowadays because of what happened to Sasha, I'm a target. Theo also doesn't like the idea of me walking home late at night anyway!

'Hello, Welcome to the EE voicemail service...'

It went to voicemail.

I try again.

Voicemail.

I try again.

Voicemail.

"Grr you fricking lousy bestfriend." I mumble to myself, "I will just walk a mile or two home at 11:00 at night! Being a walking target, I'm sure it'll be great."

I think about going to Jess's house to spend the night, but no way would her parents ever let me, I haven't even met them yet.

I have to walk through 'Yarn Road' To get home.

It's not even really a road, more of a wide alley. It's also the place where the drug dealers 'hang out' and where 80% of London's murders happen.

As I approach the alley every instinct in my body screams at me not to go through. I ignore them and take a check around before I step into the alley.

It's silent. No drug dealers. No homeless men with knives. This isn't comforting though, I can feel the darkness of this place.

I scurry down the alley constantly checking my back.

I'm reaching the end of the alley.

Phew! I say to myself.

Someone clears their throat behind me and I spin round.

Kane.

He stands about a metre away from me, smirking evilly.

His nose is still bandaged from when I broke it.

"Where's your army guy?" He asks.

"You mean Theo?" I ask.

"Is that his name? Yes."

"Uh...I...he should be stopping by in his car any minute now." I say, panicking.

"Oh? Maybe I should get a few more lads out here then." He grins.

"No! No." I say.

He raises his eyebrows, "Theo's not coming to save your skinny little ass then?"

I look at the floor.

When I look up again 3 more boys stand there, appeared from nowhere.

"Your..not s-scary." I stutter.

"No?" He asks.

He whistles and a few more boys emerge from behind bins.

"Oh so clique!" I roll my eyes.

Kane glares at me.

"Not the time for jokes? Just a bit of banter..." I say quietly.

"I don't care about BANTER!" Kane yells.

I step back.

"Don't think you can run away now, boy." Kane growls.

With that I make a run for it.

I run like my life depends on it, because it does.

I don't get too far though.

I'm too unfit to outrun all those boys.

They slam me to the ground. I groan in pain.

I struggle and kick as they pin me down.

I mange to get a good punch in to the guy with the hat but there are too many of them.

I'm defenceless.

Kane walks up and towards over me.

He leans close to my face.

"You know, all I wanted was to have a good night with your sister." He says.

"It was one sided though. Sasha would've never lost it to a sleeze bag like you." I growl.

I get a punch in the stomach.

I groan.

"Aw she was a virgin? Lucky you walked in really, if you hadn't, she wouldn't be now." He laughs.

The other boys laugh too.

I try to escape while they are laughing but it gets me no where.

"Just so you know, Jace, Your precious little Sasha will not escape me, not until I have her." Kane says.

"You bastard," I croak, "I'd rather die."

Kane looks around, "That can easily be arranged."

He pulls a long blade out of his rucksack.

He grasps it with both hands and holds it above his head.

"Any last words?" He asks.

"Your nose looks a bit wonky." I say.

Anger fills his face.

I watch the blade as it propels towards my face.

I feel the immense impact but not for long.

The light swarms my vision.

It's over.
