I woke up in a white room, confused and disorientated, and sensing a numbness in my limbs. When I looked up, I couldn't see anything except a door on the far side. When I tried to move my arm, I found that it was chained to something metal and cold, so I decided to keep still, until the door opened and a woman, tall with auburn hair tied up in a messy bun, walked in. She lingered for a while before looking my way and smiling.

"So, " she said. "You're awake, I see."

I didn't reply. This woman reeked of danger. She continued.

"I hope you've not been waiting for me too long, there were other subjects that I needed to attend to. But I'm here now." Her smile stretched into a grin. "So just relax whilst I check a few things." She proceeded to take some what looked like a bar code scanner out of her pocket and scan every part of me. I got a glimpse of my reflection in the scanner. I had wavy black hair and chocolate brown eyes that clashed with my pale skin. Was this me? I pulled a face, and she copied me exactly. It was me.

"Where am I?" I blurted out. I liked my voice. It sounded confident and... strong. The woman stopped scanning my face and smiled again.

"You're at the training facility," she replied somewhat coldly. "I train the girls, so you'll be under my command. I'm Josaline. Have you decided on your name yet?"

"I get to choose?"

"Yes."

"It can be anything?"

"Anything."

I thought long and hard. I knew some names, but I didn't like any of them. Except one. I smiled.

"Can I be Emily?"

Josaline smiled once more, and I think I saw some sort of achievement glimmering in her eyes.

"Alright then." She reached out her hand, and I did something I should never have done. I shook it.

"Nice to meet you, Emily."
