I woke up to a claxen, my eyes heavy, with last night's events lodged in my head. At first I was confused about why we were being woken up, but then I remembered that today we were allowed to meet each other at breakfast. The opportunity to socialise for some reason struck me as important, and I was about to leave my room when I saw an army uniform hanging on the door. I guessed that I had to wear it, so I slipped it on and hurried with the others to a long white room with lots of wooden tables scattered around it. I noticed that all the tables already had food on them, even though there was no kitchen in sight. I found a nice looking seat and sat down, then began to eat my breakfast of toast with marmalade, with a glass of milk to wash it down. I was halfway through my second slice when I heard someone saying
"Hi."
I turned my head and saw a frizzy-haired ginger girl with lots of freckles sitting beside me. She was smiling.
"Hey." I looked back at my food. "Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Ellie," she said. "Hey, I don't suppose you have any memories, do you?"
"Sorry to disappoint, but no," I replied. "I'm Emily, by the way." The girl smiled, and was about to say something when we heard two more klunks. I looked up and saw two almost identical girls with blonde hair sitting opposite us. One of them was grinning maniacally.
"Guess what!" she almost shouted. "We're twins and we met two minutes ago!" Before we could reply, another voice saved us the trouble.
"Nice to know, but would you mind lowering your voice?" This time it was a dark haired boy who had spoken. He looked at us all. "I'm Darius." He then pointed to another boy who was heading over to us. "That's Damien." The loud blonde girl grinned again. "We're Kat and Lil. Nice to meet you, ummm..."
"Emily," I said.
"And I'm Ellie," said Ellie. "Does anyone here have memories?" We all looked at each other and shook or heads. Ellie sighed.
"Ah well. We probably won't be told anything else either..." Then, as if on cue, Josaline cleared her throat and turned each head her way.
"Hello and welcome, future soldiers," she said, "to Camp Metak."
