I was in the middle of fighting off a horde of zombies when I was shaken awake. I bolt up and swing out, my fist making contact with something.
"Ow! Dammit- watch where you're swinging!"
"Sorry! Sorry-" I whisper-yelled. I rub my eyes and open them, quickly adjusting to the darkness of the room. Above me, two green eyes glow bright. Who the-
"It's fine, you didn't mean to." That voice, what was his name again? Gavriel I think. So, yesterday wasn't a dream. I sit up and groan, my whole body feels sore.
Gavriel sits on the end of my bed, my phone in his hand. What was he doing? I run my hand through my hair and look at the digital alarm clock on the nightstand, it read 12:45AM. Why in the hell was he waking me up so early in the morning?
"I know you're mad at me for waking you up, but this is important. I tried to let you sleep a while longer, if that makes it any better." He hands me my phone, the light of it making his face glow. How did I not notice his freckles earlier?
I unlock it to find that my messages are already opened, a single text from an unknown number is displayed in green.
Unknown: You're gonna regret what you did today. Just wait until your buddy Karson finds out.
It doesn't take me long to connect the dots. It was that guy, Jabberwock. How did he get my number?
"You waited two hours to show this to me?" I was starting to freak out. I might not remember him, but I remember Karson. I do NOT want to get on Karsons bad side.
"Well, I figured you could use the sleep. You'll be real busy tomorrow."
I sigh and toss my blanket off of me, placing my bare feet down onto the icey wooden floor. I shiver before standing up, having to blink away the black spots that appear in my eyes. Shit, I forgot to change out of my clothes before I went to bed. And I didn't take a shower. I'll be no better than Josh if I don't wash up.
I walk past Gavriel, who is still sitting on my bed, and open up my dresser drawer. Crumbled up articles of clothing fall out as I struggle to open it up. Bed sheets shuffle behind me while I dig through the possibly dirty clothes. Man, I need to do laundry. I'll do that later.
"Simon..? What are you doing up man?" Josh mumbles tiredly. I turn to him, a smile appearing on my face that I know he can't see.
"I had a nightmare. Don't worry, I'm just gonna walk it off then I'll be right back."
He nods and lays back down, instantly falling asleep again. Maybe I shouldn't be so loud.
"Good job, now hurry up and get dressed, we got some talking to do." I jump at the sound of Gavriel's voice. Despite his slightly gruff voice, he was pretty damn loud. I place my finger over my lips and shush him quietly, earning a chuckle.
"Simon, bud, you already forgot that other people can't see or hear me." Oh, right. I knew that.
I sniff myself, making sure I don't smell horrible. It's not too bad, just the aroma of sweat. It'll go away once I change my clothes, I think.
I quickly get dressed and grab my phone and sketchbook. Once I manage to quietly leave the room, I head downstairs to the commons area. There are a little more people down here than I expected, but I guess it's because they are trying to get their grades up before the break.
I sigh and sit down, setting my sketchbook on the table. Gavriel sits on the middle of the table, crossing his legs and staring down at me. I open up my sketchbook, taking out the pencil from the spiral of it, and start to sketch. "Start talking." I mumble to Gavriel.
