NarratorJohnny Orlando, the biggest player in the school, sits with his friends (Hayden summerall, and Carson lueders) at lunch as they wait for his sister and other friends.
"What about that girl?" Carson says pointing to a very pretty girl with light red hair.
"No too mean." He replied.
They are trying to find a girl to play.
"Her?" Hayden asked pointing at a blonde.
"No too gossipy." He states "her."
He points to the brunette sitting by the door by herself. She had her hair over her face, her eyes only focusing on her phone. The broken girl.
"I've never seen her before. She must be new." Hayden says.
Johnny stands up and walks over to the girl. He sits down next to her and she doesn't seem to notice him. He lightly touched her arm and she pulled away instantly.
"Hey." He says with a smirk.
"Hi?" She asked more nervous than confused.
"You new here?" He asked as she scoffed.
"What do you want?" She asked annoyed.
"Your number would be nice." He smirked.
She laughed at him.
"How stupid do you think I am? Despite what you think, I've been in your class since middle school. I was new then, I'm not new now. I know who you are and what you do. I know you and your friends find a girl for you to play everyday at lunch, and that girl is not going to be me." She says sassy. "Here have an apple."
She hands him her apple while picking up her stuff and walked out. She runs to the bathroom crying thinking that was the first and last time her crush will ever notice her. Johnny however walked back to his table confused. He sits down and is greeted by his sister and her two friends (brynn and Annie).
"Dude what happened." Hayden chuckled noticing his confused face.
"She isn't new?" Carson asked.
Johnny shook his head.
"Of course she isn't. That was Mackenzie Ziegler. She's been in our class for 5 years now." Lauren states.
"And you know this how?" Carson asked a little annoyed.
"She's my chemistry partner." Lauren huffed while glaring at Carson.
"Alright damn!" He says in defense putting his arms up.
The bell rings and they go to class. Johnny and Lauren walk to English.
Mackenzie
I'm walking to English and I see him and his sister already walking in. I keep my head low and walk in. I walk to the back of the class room and sit down in the far corner under the broken light...
Narrator
"Good morning class!" The teacher says cheerfully while walking into the classroom.
"Good morning mr. E." The class said lazily.
"Today I will be handing back your essays that you wrote last week about what you believe love is..." He said. "But before I do so, I would like to read one aloud."
Everyone groaned and a lot of worried looks spread across the room. Students began to put their head down in boredom as he starts to read.
"Love. Love is a light, a light that fills your heart and makes it beat faster. A light that turns your cheeks red and wakes up the butterflies in your stomach. A light that is shared, but I believe that not everyone deserves to be given the light that we hold. The greedy, selfish people. The people who only want the light to them selves, they take it for granted, they manipulate us into giving it to them. And one day we will realize what they have done... you will try so hard to take it back, but you can't help but love them. But one day we will grow stronger. We will take it back, we will have light again, but they will realize they don't have any light but their own. They will try to find a light they can share, but no one wants it.... soon their light will go out.... soon they will realize that not just everyone else but they don't love themselves. They will give up.... they will be alone... I believe that love is a light that is meant to be shared and not to be taken away. There are people out there who will end up like that if they don't realize it soon. Even people here at this school." He read with confidence.
Everyone began to lift their heads up as he read.
"I believe that the light in you only turns on when you are by the person you love, or when they lay the slightest finger on you or when you hear their voice, or just even when you hear their name. Love is powerful. I believe love is light. A light to be shared not taken. I believe that one day I will find a light to share, because I believe I deserve one. I believe I will pick my head up and find one.... but for now.., I keep my head low, so that I will not be noticed. Because when you aren't noticed you can't be hurt. At least that is what I have been told. I believe... I believe that love is a light."
He finished reading. Everyone was in awe. They whole class was filled with cheers and claps.
"Go mr. e!" Someone yelled out.
"Thank you. But this is not my story. This story belongs to one of you, here in this class room. It was named anonymous, but I know exactly who's it is." He states.
Everyone looks around the class room. He walked up to her. The far back corner under the broken light. "Congratulations miss Ziegler. A+."
Everyone stared at her as she kept her head down. She hides her face with her hair and the teacher hands her the essay. He then walks around the room handing everyone else their essays. Everyone slowly turns away from her as she waits impatiently for the day to end.
