I sighed. It was my hatching day, but I didn't think anyone remembered. If they did, they didn't care enough to acknowledge me.

"Hey Peril!" A warm voice shouted. My heart fluttered, and I turned around to see Clay.

"Hi." I said nonchalantly.

"Can you help me out? Tsunami says I ate all the cows in the Prey Centre." He asked. I raised my eyebrows. "And?"

"I did." He explained with a nervous grin. I laughed, despite the fact that he seemed to have forgotten about my hatching day. He had promised he would remember.

"Well, all you gotta do is run up to her, yell 'RIPTIDE ate the cows, not ME,' and run away again." I suggested. "Thanks..." He replied unsurely. "And Peril, do you really think that was the ONLY reason I came here?"

"YES. NO. Maybe... what do I say here? No. Is that right?" I stammered, internally cursing myself.

"I came here because it's a very special day." Maybe he remembered after all... I thought, hope sparking like a firework in my chest.

"Glory's been Queen for a year! It's her one year anniversary!" Clay exclaimed. My heart dropped. I was a fool to think he would remember. I had, after all, only told him once.

Stupid STUPID Peril. I thought to myself. That was STUPID. Would he be mad if I reminded him?

"I'm kidding!" Clay said, laughing. "It's your hatching day!" I felt as though I was floating. I blurted, "You remembered?"

"Didn't I say I would?" He asked. "Actually... did I? I don't have the best memory, but your hatching day is important." "Wait, did you just say my hatching day MATTERED?" I asked, genuinely surprised. I had hoped, but Scarlet had never acted as though she cared, even when I brought it up.

"Of course! It was the day that Peril, the most amazing dragon ever, hatched!" Clay said. His face went tomato red.

"I even got you gifts! Chickens for our first date!" He went redder, if that was even possible. "If you want to. I mean, if you want to date."

Saying I smiled would be an understatement. I beamed so brightly and happily that it could have been mistaken as the sun. Bigger than Sunny had ever smiled, according to Clay.

"Yes? I mean, YES. A million–" Clay cut her off with a kiss. It was a quick kiss, but it made my heart explode.  I smiled nervously. "I'm gonna pass out now," I told him. "So please catch me."

I collapsed, and for the first time in at least 5 years, maybe ever, my dreams were wonderful. No Scarlet. No Soar. No angry Clay. Just sweet dreams full of love and... chickens?
