THREE,

COINCIDENCES AND BIRTHDAY PARTIES

THERE WERE DAYS WHERE YERIM WAS RUNNING LATE. and out of all days she just had to be late for her grandma's birthday. she's always adored her grandma, who was always there for her since day one. her grandma was the most lively and caring soul she had ever known.

hell, she even volunteered to move to the old folks' home herself just to accompany her friends.

it's weird how much her grandma cares for her own skin. usually when yerim visits she would either be having a face mask on or watching skincare videos. yerim has always thought her grandma was cool. someone who was in the school girls' football team and who went to nightclubs regardless of how much her parents nagged.

yeah, maybe now yerim knows where her wild side came from.

and her thoughts definitely went wild when she saw jeongguk at the old folks' home,

talking to her grandma.

and she had no idea why her thoughts were acting up so much.

"grandma!"

madam kim immediately turned her head towards her sweet granddaughter's voice, and the big smile she already had whilst talking to jeon jeongguk became a bigger smile.

"yerim! what are you doing here?" jeongguk exclaimed, a wide smile forming on his flawless face.

yerim approached her grandma and jeongguk. "it's madam kim's birthday."

-

"madam kim's a really nice old lady."

jeongguk and yerim were sitting on a bench while watching madam kim talking with her friends.

"now you know where my nice side comes from, jeongguk."

jeongguk snorted, and turned his head to look at her. "who said you were nice, yerim?"

"i don't set the rules here, jeongguk. i'm nice," yerim replied, shrugging, shooting her gaze towards jeongguk who was also looking at her. "you probably think i'm nice too, you just don't want to admit it, do you?"

jeongguk turned away and laughed. "whatever floats your boat, kim yerim."

the way jeongguk said yerim's name made her heart skip a beat, because he made her name sound so perfect. she felt the heat forming at her cheeks.

no, no, not now, kim yerim.

she immediately cleared her voice.

"i think i should get going now. it's getting a little late and i don't want my parents to worry," yerim said as she stood up, took her bag and started to walk to her grandma to say goodbye.

jeongguk grabbed her wrist gently and stood up. yerim turned around to look at jeongguk, not expecting the sudden gesture. she felt her cheeks heat up more and looked away.

"let me bring you home."

-

jeongguk and yerim walked down the neighbourhood street, lined with some shops, leading to her house.
