Cherizel was going to throw up. Well, not really. But she felt like she was about to. Cher thought she was ready for this. She'd been ready to get her memories back for years. But as they stood there looking on at the impressive mansion at the end of the street, it hit her. She was nervous as hell.
There was a long procession of cars and people walking up to the tall, wrought iron gate. There wasn't a single person that wasn't dressed to the nines.
And Cherizel herself wasn't looking too shabby. She almost couldn't believe that the first time she got to dress up like this was for infiltrating a mansion. She had some crazy fantasies before, sure. But normally people didn't expect their fantasies to become a reality.
How many people thought they would actually be a part of some spy thriller scenario? She would bet the number wasn't high.
"Ready?" Regis whispered in her ear. She felt his hand press against the small of her back, so teasingly close to where her backless dress opened up.
"Ready as I'll ever be," she mumbled. They stood a little out of the way and though they weren't out of view of other guests, that only made them blend in more. No one spared them more than a single glance as they walked by.
"This way, Ma Cherie," he said. Regis guided her off to the side, down a little path that winded around the whole property. The tall stone wall seemed endless and imposing.
Cherizel didn't think it would be too much of a stretch to assume that a wall like that could make people feel too safe. It didn't sound like a bad thing, but when you got too complacent to check if everything was in order? That's when the problems started.
"What are we going to do if this hole we're supposed to be going through was actually found? What if it's already closed up?" She asked in a whisper. They were getting further away from the guests, but you never knew who was close enough to hear.
"It won't. But if it is, then we'll just have to fake being invited some other way," Regis said. His eyes were firmly fixed to the path ahead.
"And how would we do that exactly?"Cher raised an eyebrow at him.
"Why... we seduce someone. Then we take their invitation and leave them in the bushes somewhere," he grinned. "Two desire demons should be able to handle something like that pretty easily, no?"
"And we're not doing that to begin with... why?"
"It's too messy," Regis whispered. "There would be too many loose ends and the chances of us getting caught would go up exponentially."
Cherizel couldn't argue with that. When he put it like that, sneaking in through the bushes definitely seemed like the safer option.
"Over here," he said. Cher the cold rush in when he removed his hand from her back. Regis grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into some dark green, wild looking bushes. She bit down on her lip to stop herself from making a sound as he pulled her through the foliage.
All that Cherizel could see was a lot of little branches and leaves, so she had to trust that Regis knew where he was going.
Regis pulled her through to the other side. He yanked her a little too hard, making her fall into him.
"Sorry," he mumbled and helped her right herself up. Cher watched him as he picked out the leaves from her hair. He looked so serious and focused. She doubted he even noticed her staring at him.
Her heart was doing strange things. It felt like a million butterflies were fluttering in her chest. Cher couldn't remember feeling so giddy before. And Regis wasn't really doing anything grand. But he was being sweet and helpful. That she couldn't deny.
