Sarah's POV
I didn't sleep well after Jessica stormed off last night. Broke my heart.
That and the fact I had my rollers in, always a pain to sleep with.It was quarter to seven and I was still awake. I have work in two hours, but I don't see myself falling asleep sometime soon.
I got out my bed and walked across the landing. Dad was snoring loud enough for me to through the door.
Across the hall was the girls' bedroom. I slowly opened the door. Orla was snoring as well. Jess was silent. I couldn't tell if she was asleep or not. I shut the door.I decided to go to Mary's and have a cup of tea. My sister was awake and having breakfast.
"Hiya, Sarah." She smiled, finishing off a bowl of cereal. "Ye alright?"
"Aye. Actually, no. Poor Jessica last night."
"Oh god aye. I hope she's alright."
"Well, she was quiet when I went to check on the girls a couple minutes ago. I'm not entirely sure if she was asleep or not."
"I need to have a word with Erin. She left before I could say anything. Absolutely raging with her. She's been doing nothing but getting on my nerves ever since Jess got here."
"I feel so bad for her. I wish Connor was here."
"So do I. Mammy never forgave da for driving him away."
"Just think, if Daddy didn't have an issue with Tara, the three of them would still be alive."
"Let's not think about that." Mary quickly replied. "I'm going to speak to Erin. Go and get the girls up for school."I did what my sister said, and walked back to my house and up the stairs. Da was now awake. "Morning love." He greeted me from upstairs.
"Hi da." I wasn't in a good mood with him.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Just about to get the girls up." I walked past him to the bedroom. "Girls, wake up!" I shook Orla. She almost hit me but I dodged it. "Jess."
"I'm awake." She mumbled.
"Breakfast next door."Mary's PoV
I stormed up the stairs and up into the attic.
"Erin Caitlin Quinn, get up!" I demanded.
"No." She groaned, rolling over. I ripped the duvet off her. She started flailing her arms about the place.
"Do not test me today, girl!"
"Ach Mammy, it's too early!"
"I'm not putting up with this." I opened the curtains and stood over her with my arms folded. "Up. Now!"
"Ach fine." She sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Can you please leave so I can get dressed?"
"We need to have a talk about last night."
"Do we?"
"Absolutely! How dare you treat Jessica like that!"
"Like what?"
"Like she's a nuisance. Your poor cousin has been through hell and back! She comes here with absolutely nothing apart from Bear, and you have the audacity to be rude to her?! I thought I raised you better than that!"
"Christ, I'm sorry!"
"It's not me you need to apologise to! It's Jessica! By Jesus, we still need to organise a funeral. What the hell is going through your head?!"
"I don't know, Mammy! Everybody loves her!"
"So it's about attention is it? She's taking the spotlight away from you? Really?"
"Now that you say it out loud..." She sunk back.
"Wise up, Erin. Go and apologise!"

Jessica's POV
I took my seat at the kitchen table. I was still in a bad mood about last night.
"Mary, the funerals, I don't know where to start."
"Love, don't worry about it, we'll cover it."
"I just want two things."
"Of course, anything."
"I want the funerals to be at home. In Scotland. The other thing I want is, they all wanted to be buried. And I want them to be buried together. Daddy did talk about being buried in Derry, because he missed it."
"I'll have a look into it. But don't worry love, just concentrate on yourself."Erin walked into the kitchen. She was about to speak but I cut her off.
"I'm not really in the mood Erin." I sighed upon seeing my cousin. I went back to my bowl of soggy cornflakes.
"No, Jess, I need to apologise." I looked up. "It's been brought to my attention that I've been out of order lately. And I'm sorry. I got jealous."
"Jealous of what?" I asked.
"People love you. And David really likes you, and you fought with Charlene. But you stuck up for Orla, when I didn't. And I should have."
"People were being mean to Orla. Laughing at her. And it really hurt me
that all you could think about was your friendship with the bully."
"I know. It was wrong of me. You're really pretty and talented. I do really want this relationship to work. I really like you. Even if you don't like me. I wouldn't blame you." I didn't reply. Everyone was looking at us. I got up and hugged her.
"Thank you Erin." She hugged me back, tightly. "I know I was being stupid at the party. I'm sorry too."
-
Once we were on the bus, Clare and I decided to sit on our own.
"So for our date on Friday, what should we do?" Clare asked with a massive grin. "Also, have you told anyone?"
"I told Michelle last night, but she seemed okay with it."
"Okay. Is that all?"
"Yeah. No one else. Maybe we should tell Orla, Erin and James?"
"I don't know."
"Erin and I sorted everything out. Orla and James would be more than happy for us. I haven't known them long, but I can tell they're nice."
"True."
"And if Erin doesn't like it, then tough shit. How about dinner? Somewhere in town?"
"Great!"
-
School was very boring. I wasn't paying attention for the majority of the classes. Erin and I actually worked together in drama. After, she told me she was writing a new script, and she had me act out what was scribbled down in a notebook. It was actually really good! Erin has a talent for writing!Once school was over, Orla, Erin and I walked home together. We bought some sweets from the wee shop.
For dinner, Mary made us pasta.
"Love, earlier today, I arranged the funeral. Next Monday. Up in Aberdeen."
"Thank you, Mary."
The table was quiet for a moment. Granda spoke up.
"How was school?"
"Aye it was fine." I replied.
"Boring." Erin said.
"Nothing much." Orla had a mouth full of food.
"On Friday, I hope it's okay, but Clare and I are going out for dinner."
"Yeah that's fine. Do you have money?"
"Aye. I've still got the cash that was lying about in the house."
"Okay. What time?"
"7ish."
-
Up in Erin's room, the three of us lay on her bed in our pyjamas, eating chocolate and talking about anything and everything.
"I have a confession to make. I spoke to Clare about telling you guys this, but it's actually a date on Friday."
"What? You're a lesbian?" Erin asked. I nodded my head. Orla threw her arms around me and kissed my cheek.
"I told you last night."
"Oh aye, so you did! I forgot in the heat of the moment. Well, I actually have some news as well."
"What?" Orla and I looked at our cousin.
"James is taking me out on Saturday. Ever since he took me to the prom, I couldn't shift the feelings that I had for him. I thought it was just friend feelings, but I was wrong. We're going out for a trial run."
"You could say the same for Clare and I. She's beautiful." I smiled.
"You really love her? Don't you?" Orla asked.
"I think I do. She's so tiny and huggable, and precious."
"She's a cack-attack." Erin laughed.
"Aye she may be that, but she's got a good heart."
"Even if she does sell us down the river at times."
"I thought you liked David?" Orla asked.
"I did, but feelings change."
"What's your favourite thing about, James? And don't say his dick."
"I haven't seen it!" She rolled her eyes. "But..." Erin paused. "I like his sensitivity. I always thought he was soft, but when he left his convention to take me to prom because I was stood up, I knew it wasn't a weakness."
"That's so cute." I smiled. "What about you, Orla? Any guys?"
"No." She sighed, pulling on her sleeves.
"Really? No special guy out there?"
"Granda is the special guy in my life. He makes me so happy, and he's cracker! He looks good in a suit."
"I agree, he cleaned up sharply for prom?"
"He went to your prom?" I questioned.
"Aye. I was told to take a special guy, and granda's my favourite."
"That's actually so sweet! I suppose you're just waiting to find someone as special as Granda."
"Aye."
-
I'm really happy that Erin and I have sorted things out. I'm glad she likes me, and I like her.
Orla and I finished the night off by talking in our beds until we fell asleep.
