yesterday we were learning about the Zoot Suit Riots in US History and i was like "this could be a fanfic"
for y'all who don't know what the Zoot Suit Riots are, look it up. i'm not a credible source but it's a string of riots that took place in Los Angeles in 1943 (WWII times). racism was growing for mexican americans, they were being mistreated greatly, especially by US sailors and military officials; they eventually broke out into riots.
i was thinking like a romeo and juliet feel (real original, i know) structured around the riots. perhaps a romance between a mexican american and a caucasian, that would probably have the most drama and "forbidden love" tone. it would be an interesting piece with history, like a creative way of telling it.
oH i just thought, it would be even better if it was a relationship between one of the sailors and a teenager who would have been called a "pachucos" at the time.
obviously this idea isn't meant to offend anyone, racism and WWII is a heavy topic, but i believe it needs to be talked about. there was so much racism in the 30s and 40s, and not just in germany. intolerance at the time was very high in the US as well, with the japanese american internment camps, segregation with african americans, and of course the zoot suit riots. bringing to light all of these issues that we've had in the past is very important, we learn from them if we do. we need to stamp out intolerance for if we don't we'll just end up having another holocaust.
anyway, mini rant over. there's my idea, history is important, i love everyone okay byyyyyyyyeee
