I've been giving the door long looks all day. Hoping for an escape to come forward. Staying trapped in my mind is distracting and a dangerous thing.
School is back in tomorrow and I can't wait to get out of this house. Away from my monsters. I look one more time, hoping to conjure something out of thin air.
My sister is behind the house when she screams. I freeze up immediately, frozen in place. Memories try to push through my walls, but I push them back. Soon laughter follows her screams.
I scold myself. Jeez hailey, you know better than that. My muscles are tensed up and I massage out the knots left from the adrenaline rush.
The door finally opens.. it's my sister come to do my father's bidding, as usual.
Hello Marley. Shut up hailey! It's not my fault you ended down here again. Shrugging I search my mind for what to say. Dad says you can come out know.
What if I dont want to? You have to, you know what happens when you don't. My body hurts with the memory. Yes, I do. I'll be up soon as I tidy up the room.
Marley only nods knowing I want a minute to hide everything deep down, where it can't be found. I stand numb and glare at the door.
If I'm gonna burn in hell, why not be the spark that starts the inferno.
