Eclipse

The Morning

With a bump we pulled into a truck stop. Mom put the car in park and gently nudged me.

"Serenity, we're at the café.. Do you want anything?" She quietly asked me "I don't know mom. Surprise me." I said as I closed my eyes again hoping to sleep. I heard the truck door close and I opened my eyes, squinting at the sunset over the horizon, the golden rays looked gorgeous shining on the concrete and grass.

I received a text from mom;
"Let's eat inside tonight"
"I'm on my way <3"

I unbuckled my seatbelt and slowly stepped out of the Chevrolet. I shielded my eyes and walked towards the shop doors. Slowly turning my head left to right I looked for my mother. I spotted her talking to a young family with parents around her age and a young son around my age, they also had a little girl.

I smiled and I walked to the table,
"Hello." I smiled "Serenity. This is the Lee family. They're moving to Wakefield." Mom said happily.

"That's cool." The middle aged woman looked at me "Hello Hun. How are you?" "I'm good. And you?" She smiled gracefully.

"Jasper, Alex-" the man sternly said "say hello." He finished. Jasper looked up from his cellphone and looked at me, for a split second his eyes widened. Then, he simply got up and stormed out.

     "Hi!" Alex said as she waved. She carried an old Victorian styled doll with her, dressed in white with long brown hair and yellow glossy eyes. She was gorgeous.

     The man rolled his eyes and introduced himself.

     "My name is Jon." He said staring at me contently. "Nice to meet you Jon. I'm Serenity.." "Why don't you sit down dear?" Ms. Lee stated, I nodded at her and sat beside Alex.

We had talked for close to an hour now, I found out that Ms. Lee and Jon are siblings, not a couple and Alex is her daughter. Jasper belongs to Jon.

Mom had went to start the truck fifteen minutes ago, and still hasn't come back so I texted her
"Everything ok? Xx"
"Car broke down. Calling your father to come and get us to go back to Wakefield."

     I sighed but continued talking at this point it was dark outside.

     Mom walked in and tapped my back "Your Dad is on his way now." She said "Oh, what's wrong?" Jon asked her, "My truck broke down so Chuck is going to come and get us and take us back to Wakefield." Jon nodded his head, "Serenity? What school do you go to?" He asked, "Counterville High." "Same with Jasper."

     And after that was said I had the feeling in my gut that I would never escape him. He'd be everywhere, running from me like I'm some kind of monster. The Lee family welcomed me, but Jasper didn't.

     I was welcomed for a specific reason that science will never be able to explain.
