"hello, i'm dr. santiago, and you must be mary." looking up from my clipboard, i smile at the adorable four year old. turning to the parents, i shake their hands, giving them a reassuring smile, "and you must be the parents."

taking them to the side, i whisper, "she will be getting shots today, is she really afraid of them, cause if so then we will have to bring some nurses in here."

with realized looks they shake their heads, "a nurse won't be necessary, but if you could maybe talk to her before giving it to her then that would be great."

nodding, i wave one of the nurses, natasha in, and let her set up.

"alright mary, you'll be getting shots today, think you can be a big girl, and stay really still for natasha?"

she bits her lip warily, and nods, "don't worry sweetheart, it will only take a minute, and afterwards miss. natasha will give you a lollipop, and sticker. would you like a sticker?"

with pouting lips, she nods, squeezes her eyes close, after cleaning her arm. natasha hurriedly sticks the clear substance in it.

placing a minnie mouse band-aide on the cut, she gives her a smile, and hands her a lollipop, then allows her to pick a sticker.

"now that wasn't so bad, right?" shaking her head, she giggles before sticking the lollipop in her mouth.

"now, if you would you like to schedule her next check up, go to the desk, and someone will be there to assist you."

picking up their little girl, they smile back, and coo at her causing her giggle even more.

"that's your last patient for tonight, dr. santiago." thanking natasha, i head over to my office, and grab my stuff before heading out.

"hey, hermano, ¿cómo te fué en el trabajo?" grabbing a slice of pizza i sit down at the bar. "work was good, had plenty of patients today, and mrs. summers was working the cafeteria today."

mrs. summers a haitian, and one of the cooks at the hospital, and man did that lady know how to make good fried chicken and plantain. licking my lips at the thought, i turned to bruce, to see him sporting a frown.

pizza stuffed in my mouth, i stop chewing, "what?"

"mateo...you know i love you right?"

"yeah..."

"and i anything i say, it's for your own good?"

"mhm."

"okay, glad you know that, cause i'm sorry to tell you, but you're pathetic."

glancing up from my pizza, "déjame solo." grabbing a soda, i go up to the guest room, which i had been staying at until my apartment was fully painted, and furnished. and fortunately it was tomorrow.

"look, i know you don't like when i talk to you about your "love life." but i'm actually concerned. the highlight of your day is a fifty four year old woman cooking food. now i know you don't like for me to match you up with people, but i've got the p-"

"no." i wasn't about to allow my younger brother try, and hook me up. that was a no-no.

"mateo, please."

what's the harm?

i met her, and that's it.

what could possibly go wrong

HA! famous last words.

"alright, fine, but if i don't like her, than you don't get to push me into a blind date again."

"who said anything about a date? she's jayden's best friend, and she will be going to the mall with us to pick out a few last minute things for the wedding."

groaning, i nod, walking into the room, taking a ten minute shower, and brushing my teeth, i fall into my bed, and turn the tv on, dreading the next day.
