James POV

I woke up to bright light, forcing me to squint as if I were drugged. My vision was blurry and I felt like I had a hangover.

"Oh look, another one." A feminine voice came over to me. My vision seemed to be healed so I looked into the direction of her voice. She was blond and had a genuine smile on her face. she had a white toga on and wings sprouting from her back. I wonder if she's been here for a long time and just got used to the light because her eyes were wide with glee.

"Now just sign here and we'll decide where you go. I know this might be new but just wait a few seconds." she handed me a paper and a quill. Wow, this place must be fancy if it were to afford these feathers.

I started to read the paper, its words painting the picture in my head:

When you sign this paper, you are agreeing that you might be sent to heaven or hell due to variables. if you are not chosen for any you will be sent to purgatory by spending time as a ghost.

The list continued on with things about each. so I signed it and it disappeared. Then the question came into my mind. How did I die or even get here? Yeah, I understand that its heaven and I came here when I die. But how? The last moment I remember is that I was sitting in my chair, minding my business and now I'm here? How does that even happen?

*Ding!

I looked over to the sound to see the woman back, carrying another one of those quills and looking over in my direction.

"Oh, there you are! now here it says you are going to heaven." She paused surveying the area with a hard expression. "Let me go over some of the rules a bit. First, you can't commit a sin in heaven or you'll lose your wings and become a sort of demon-angel thing. Second, we have a meeting every Sunday to check who's where because you can passively go to purgatory and hell. Third, you can go down to Earth only for about an hour. If you spend even more time down there you will go into purgatory. any questions?" I shook my head.

"Good, now just wait for a sec." she vanished and I was left there to think. But as I was thinking the pillowy surface below me, which was a cloud, started to dip down. As I descended the light became more comforting and all I could see were other people, walking around. Most of them had wings while others had horns and sat to the side and had smug looks on their faces.

2 People came up to me and fist bumped the air. They looked similar somehow.

"OMG! Rebbeca look it's another one!" One squealed while chasing the other gliding slightly due to her brown wings, which were close to the color of her hair.

"Jaiden we have to make ourselves presentable. He's not a child!" Rebbeca clumsily stood in front of me wiping her skirt lightly and smiled brightly. Her wings were a hazel like color and she wore a small jacket over her shirt. The other stranger, who I presumed was Jaiden, went next to her and waved innocently.

"Um, hello. I'm James." They waved their hands more and led me toward a small table. How'd this even get up here?

"So, James we need to tell you about the meeting tomorrow!" Jaiden said, waving her arms like a fangirl, Rebbeca soon joined her after. Why were they being so nice to a stranger? "We go into this big auditorium and we go to events like team fairs and concession stands."

"After that's up we sit up in our year and we wait for our name. Don't worry it's not that boring He goes super fast." Rebbeca joined in, leaning her head backward.

While they were talking I looked around the premises. It looked like a normal town, just white in color. We were sitting in front of a small restaurant, which was closed. there were others sitting at the other tables, mostly talking or walking away.

"so where do we sleep?" I asked suddenly. Jaidens wings flew out from her back in surprise. She pointed to a large building behind the restaurant. It read "The U.S." and had people flying from it right and center. they continued talking and I didn't want to ask more questions. Maybe I could go ask another person? I got up and walked over to the closest table. There sitting were a few people, mostly with horns, laughing, and seemed to be having a good time. One even fell back from his chair, crying and holding his chest while snorting.

As I sat down next to them, they became silent and stared at me. They started to whisper and giggle, but there sitting across from me was a stranger who didn't say a word.
