The day had come. The day Thana had been dreading for years. She bolted the doors and windows shut, not daring to look outside.
Why is this happening to me? I did nothing wrong. She thought these thoughts to herself, even though she knew they weren't true.
She ran to her room and locked the door. She barricaded the door with everything she could, hiding in the closet.
The fear overtook her. Tears rolled down her face as she heard them yelling in the street. She put a hand over her mouth to quiet her cries. Only after the group had passed her house did she allow herself to relax a little bit. She waited a few minutes before opening her closet door and stepping out into her room. She peered out the window.
In the distance, a building had been set on fire. Two more were set ablaze as she stared at the scene in disbelief. They were burning all of them.
After several minutes of watching building after building burn, she heard a knock at her door.
