Preface
Prince Alexander's P.O.V
I sat on the throne beside my mother, Queen Clarisse, as she charmed the King of our neighbouring country with her elegant words and beauty. King James stood before us, his large, gold and ruby decorated crown, sitting perfectly on his aging head. The large royal purple cloak that hung around his shoulders and swept down to the ground, was a startling contrast to his long silver hair and angled face and it made him look like he was surrounded in an aura of magic.
His sceptical eyes landed on me as my mother went over her proposal of marriage. Not that she was the one to be married. No, she was asking the King, to offer his only daughter's hand in marriage over to me, because not only would it increase our kingdoms wealth but it would give King James army more men in their time of war. I never agreed to this arrangement but I never had any choice in the matter, my mother thought that this marriage would be good for our country, so she went ahead with it, and like the well trained gentleman, and prince that I was, I spoke no word of disapproval. I just sat on my throne and listened intently to my mother's words.
King James studied me for awhile in deep thought before asking, "Tell me Prince Alexander, what are your thoughts on this plan of marriage?"
I wanted to throw something, I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs that I refused, to complain that I was only eighteen, not even a full grown man yet and that I had no interest in girls at all, but instead I smiled politely at the king and said, "It would be an honour your majesty, to have the pleasure of taking your beautiful daughter as my bride."
He seemed pleased with my answer because he then turned to my mother with a warm smile and clasped his hands together, "Well then it's agreed, I shall return in a week with Princess Isabella by my side, but you will have to win her over for I will not force my only daughter into something she does not wish to go through with."
If only my mother thought like that, maybe then I would not have to be going through all this. But the King did say I had to win his daughter, so maybe if I did the complete opposite then I would be able to escape the marriage. Maybe then mother would see that I would do just fine running the country without a female by my side. One could only hope.
