Chapter Two
Prince Alexander's P.O.V
I woke slowly, and as I rolled over I saw that my man servant had already set out my breakfast of bread, cheese and fruit. I sat up with a groan; I then lifted myself off my bed and walked over to my breakfast. Once the meal was over, I called on my man servant to help dress me, and then walked out of the room to meet my mother. I found her in the throne room speaking with Sir Hagard, the knight whose main duty was to protect my mother at any cost. "Before the hunt today, the young prince is needed in the sparring field; the new recruits are being tested."
A smile came to my lips, I loved watching the new recruits for knight hood, because most of them didn't even know how to hold a sword let alone wield one. "That is fine, if it is anything like last time, it'll go quickly."
Hagard spun around and fell into a bow, "Your majesty."
I bowed my head before marching my way past the knight and taking my place in the throne beside my mother. My mother smiled at me as she added in, "You will be taking Princess Isabella with you, yes?"
I was about to argue that the sparing field was no place for a lady but then I remembered that with the princess came her beautiful man servant, so instead I smiled back at my mother and said, "Why of course mother."
I could see how pleased my mother was with this, and I couldn't help but feel a tinge guilty for misleading her. I shook the feeling off though as I rose and said, "Send a message to the princess for me, I will meet her out there."
With that I bowed my head first at my mother then sir Hagard before exiting the room and making my way out to the sparring field through the maze of a castle that I have grown up in. When I got out there, I was surprised to find the princess already seated in one of the two thrones that over looked the field, her man servant standing at her side quietly. My eyes lingered on his figure for a moment more before I turned away and made for Lord Welby, who is always stuck with the duty of training the new knights.
Standing beside him, I skimmed over the boys hoping to become knights, quite impressed with what I saw. They were a great improvement to last year's hopefuls, these boys at least had some muscle on them and weren't weedy little sticks. "Okay, get them started."
Lord Welby bowed his head and said, "Right away Prince Alexander."
By the time he had swords in all of their hands, I was already seated in the throne beside the princess. She was looking at the boys, waving their swords about, with curiosity. Her servant on the other hand looked bored and fidgety, his eyes kept moving to the forest that was to our right with eager eyes. My gaze kept moving from the boys fighting, to the princess, and then too the man servant. A couple of times he caught me staring and a blush came to his cheeks. I had to try very hard to not smile at how adorable it made him look, and how it made me want to finish what I had begun last night in the corridor, but I knew it was not the place.
The princess would make small talk and try and make conversation with me as we watched the men go through challenge after challenge but after a while she deemed me impossible to talk to so instead spoke with her man servant. "What do you think Makao; think you could become a knight?"
The boy seemed to really think this through before finally shaking his head and responding, "I think not your majesty, well not in your lands at least, your swords are made too heavy and you ride beasts that belong in your bellies, not on the battle field."
This made the Princess laugh, "Oh Makao you are a worry, if the Eljam Tribe ever heard you speak so poorly of their precious horses they would burn you alive."
