Ayria (not her final name) was running. Running for her life. Pebbles stabbed into her feet as she streaked through the forest. Sticks cracked under her. She scaled over a bush and rushed under a tree. Her long brown hair flapping out behind her. She could hear the sounds of attack dogs crashing through the brush behind her. Terror filled her bones and she thrust forward faster. She broke out of the forest with a gasp and almost skidded over the edge of a cliff. She let out a yelp and stumbled back, her green eyes flashing wildly. Her breaths came in as panicked gasps, she saw the dogs burst through the brush she had stumbled through moments before.
It's either my torture or this- She stared down the cliff, still panting. Then the small girl threw herself off the edge and let out a strangled scream. She felt her hair whip past her and air tear at her skin. Dirt fell with her and she cried out again. Terror burnt away in her chest and she free-fell for several moments before coming to her senses. Her wings snapped out in a flurry of feathers and she caught herself with a horrible thrust. She beat her wings awkwardly, righting herself in the air. Ayria twisted her head to stare at the wings. They were a deep chocolate brown at her shoulders, and faded into a light honey color, then dappling them were tiny golden, orange dots. She removed her gaze from her wings and sighed as she heard the dogs receding back. She flapped upwards and tumbled into the ground on the other end of the cliff. She collapsed into a heap of heavy breathes and sweat, her wings limp on the ground on either sides of her. She slowly got up and struggled to a tree, where she climbed up and laid down on a trunk. She closed her eyes with an exasperated sigh and slipped off into sleep.
