When she first arrived she was overwhelmed. The building was much larger than she had initially expected making her feel very intimidated. It was like the buliding its self was looming over her daring her to come inside to gaze upon its interior. Anxiousness dwelled up inside her & she tried her best to push it aside, now was not the time to be nervous considering she was about to meet with her new boss. All she knew about him was that his name was Mr. Ullman and he was a very tough man to impress. Pushing all her insecurities aside she walked up to the large wooden doors of the building pulled them open, and paused before walking inside.
She was greeted with a chaotic setting.
Loads of people were checking out and hustling to leave. Sure there were a couple of people outside packing their car to leave but she didn't think there were this many folks inside. Things were so chaotic she almost didn't even notice the beautiful scenery in front of her. The lobby was very beautiful, the furniture was almost antique like and the floors were so polished you can almost see your reflection. Everything just shouted "Elegance". The building was so beautiful she actually felt a little insecure about how she was dressed. She felt like an out of place puzzle piece ruining the completion of the neatly organized puzzle. She felt like a woman of her "status" wouldn't be welcomed in such "high class" environment. She just hoped her new boss wasn't like the rest of them, arrogant and ignorant. Thankfully after years of experience she was used to dealing with men who had more... conservative values. She was a middle class woman so being able to afford the proper attire was no biggie, that just meant it wouldn't be designer like all the wealthy people had. But even then they still were able to smell the middle class off of her cheap two piece suit. She had dark brown almond shaped eyes and long thick dark brown hair like all the women of her race did, but it became to much to handle so she cut off most of it so that it fell inches off her shoulders. Her skin was lighter than the rest from lack of going outside as a child which left her with an olive tan complexion. But the one thing that always made her nervous was her accent, just like her father she had thick Hispanic accent which made her susceptible to bullying in her younger years. Because of this she worked hard on her English so that her accent would barely be detectable, but she eventually grew proud of her accent and didnt let the bullying get to her. The only thing that caused her to be labeled as "less than" was the fact that she was a plus size woman. Hopefully her new employer wasn't a racist sexist pig. She had only waited a few minutes before being greeted by a man in a royal blue business suit and blonde hair.
"How can I help you miss, uhhhhh..." he started.
"Jazmin, Jazmin Nieves" She continued,"I'm here because I was hired as the winter care taker for this establishment."
"Ah yes miss Nieves, Welcome to the Overlook Hotel. Its so nice to formally meet you, my assistant has told me much about you but she never mentioned how beautiful you are."
"Oh.. thank you." Jazmin said feeling slightly uncomfortable.
"Yes.. anyway, we should discuss how this will work." He began as they stared to walk near a very large window that displayed a humungous maze, a racquet ball course, some tall hedges shaped to look like animals and a slightly large playground. "First you will be staying here for the next six months, if you need anything not supplied by hotel you can always go to Sidewinder, the closet town near this place. Other that you must stay here at all times, we will provide you with your own cuarters which includes a bed and bath as well as a small living room. Your only job is to keep this place nice and clean for the rest of the winter, everything else the Torrances will take care of, an-" Was all Mr. Ullman could say before Jazmin cut him off.
"Um I'm sorry to interrupt but, who are Torrances?" She asked. Her interruption didnt seem to bother him as much as she thought. She assumed he was a man who was easily annoyed since he had that 'oh you cant come to work because your sick, ok FIRED!' type look.
"Well it is a pretty big place, and there are a lot of things to be taking accounting for. Not one person can take care of this place by themselves." He said, "Normally I would hire just the family but I decided the more people taking care of this place the better. I hope that there company won't bother you, after all they will be staying here with you for the next 6 months. " He said in a slightly condescending tone. She could tell he was looking down on her which made her a little angry but she quickly regained her composure.
"No, its fine I was just surprised. Besides it might be nice to have some company, I'm mean it's like you said, this place is huge and one person can't keep this place clean. Do you happen to know anything about them?"
The smile on Ullman's face disappeared in an instant. It was clear he would much more gloat about his glamorous hotel than the family that would accompany her.
"Well the Torrances are a family of three," he continued,"Jack, his wife Wendy and their son Danny." He said in a very unenthusiastic tone.
"But between you and me I would have rather another family work here since Jack has had some.. trouble handling his alcohol in the past , but a friend of mine said he was good for the job and I owe him a favor."
"Oh,...ok ummmm, anyway do you know when they'll be arriving" She asked hesitantly. This pompous asshole just told her sensitive information about an employee of his who probably didn't want her to know about. She was snapped from her thoughts when Ullman began speaking."Well actually there here." He said and pointed to a man looking around the hotel lobby in admaration. They were both interrupted by an employee working at the front desk.
"Sorry to interrupt sir," he said in a scared manner, " but Mrs. Duvall his having trouble paying the bill for her stay here." Jazmin turned her head to see a woman who almost looked like Cruella Deville standing their impatiently, tapping her foot as she smoked her cigarette.
"Oh god," Mr. Ullman said as he groaned. He than turned to Jazmin with an apologetic look on his face.
"I'm so sorry miss Nieves, but I must take care of this issue."
"That's fine, I'll just take this time to fimilerize myself with the Torrances." She said as she walked towards the man in the lobby.
"Hi, are you Jack Torrance?" She asked unsureally.
"Yes I am," he said as he reached to shake her hand," And who might you be"
"My name is Jazmin Nieves," she said while shaking his hand," I'll be accompanying you and your family here for the rest of winter."°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
