-A century later-

Alec's POV

I sat near a tree, in who knows where. Leaning my head against the tree behind me, I closed my eyes and thought of all the drama that happened these last 'few' years. A sudden brush of wind brushed past me. Normally, as a Volturi guard, I would immediately go into attack mode. But since I wasn't and I practically didn't care if I died, I just remained in the same position, waiting for Death to claim me.

"Alec?" asked a familiar voice.

I didn't reply. In fact, I haven't spoken since I have left the Volturi.

"Are you ok?" he asked again.

I opened my eyes and saw, surprise surprise, Carlisle Cullen.

"Why aren't you back in the Volturi?" he asked.

"What's the point?" I asked, talking for the first time in a century.

"What happened?" he asked concerned.

Wow. Normal vampires would've ran away as fast as they could if they saw one of the Volturi guards, much less one of the witch twins.

"Why do you care? I hurt your family numerous times. You should be killing me right now." I said monotonously.

He just chuckled.

"I'm just surprised that one of the witch twins are here without the other twin." he said.

I closed my eyes, trying to block out the memories.

"Hey...but really. Are you ok?" he asked.

"No." I said bluntly.

"Come back to my house with me. We can talk there."

I nodded, not knowing what else to do. We ran for about two minutes and stopped at his condo. Everyone else looked at us with curious eyes.

"What is he doing here?" hissed a voice.

"Calm down Rosalie. He quit the Volturi." said Carlisle.

She rolled her eyes.

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks." she mumbled.

Normally, I would've lashed out but today, I wouldn't care if they burned me at the stake all over again.

"Please follow me, Alec." said Carlisle.

He took me to a guest room and gestured me to a chair. I sat down and so did he.

"So tell me what happened." he prompted.

"Jane and I got into an argument the night I was going to propose to her." I said nonchalantly.

"Oh." was all he could make out.

"It doesn't matter. That was too long ago." I said, closing my eyes once again, hoping not to open them ever again.
