“Good morning,” His smile makes me smile; I stretch my arms a little, and my legs. “What happened out there?” Everything rushes back into my memory. The birds making noises, which turned into beeps. Loud beeps. Which never went away. I remember falling. Covering my ears. Screaming. I remember falling…slowly…into a sleep…and waking up in my bed…at home.

“I don’t know.” I sit up a little, Archie moving the chair closer to me and then sits down. But then he stands up and kneels next to my bed, he puts his hand to mine; I tighten my grip and then loosen it a little. “I just remember hearing beeping noises which never went away.” He looks at me concerned, a little worried. “I’m fine now. It just feels like a bad dream now.” He laughs a little, smiling as he does.

“So kissing me is a nightmare, eh?” I laugh a bit too much, and lean into his face, resting my forehead against his.

“Of course not.” I tell him, he leans in close enough for our lips to meet. Before I know it, Archie moves onto my bed, kissing me. Of course not, I think. Of course not.

There is a knock at the door, and Archie suddenly moves to lie next to me. The door opens, Tim behind it.

“Hi Squash.” I say with a giggle in my voice. He looks at us, and with his confused look he shuts the door, and then looks back at us.

“What have you two been doing?” I can tell he is joking, because as soon as he says it, a smile rises on his face. “Archie, your mother is on the phone, she just wants to know if…” He looks at me before he finishes his sentence, leaving a two second gap in between his sentence “…If you are ready to go.” It gives me a shiver when Tim finishes his sentence. I wish he never said it. Archie leaps off my bed, and follows Tim. I hear them talking when they shut the door, obviously right behind the door, their voices have a whisper to them, but I can still hear them. Tim says “You have already hurt my little sister by leaving. Don’t push it.” I walk up the door, and quietly listen. Archie replies “I won’t. I just won’t be back for a while, you know that right?” Tim says “I know. I know. Just try not to die out there, will you? Z has already got enough going on at the moment.” Archie says “I can’t make any promises, but I will try. They are very good out there. I will be fine.” There is a little silence, but I don’t let any of my thoughts reach my brain until I know the full story. “Have you told her?” Tim asks, he sounds like he chose his words before he said them. “No, I don’t want to just yet, especially while I’m gone, all she will be thinking about is my safety. I don’t want that. I want her to think of herself for a while.” Archie tells him. I hear noises which sound like they are hugging, Tim pats Archie’s back and then let’s go. “I really do like you Archie,” There voices get a little louder when I hear their footsteps, meaning that they are moving away from the door. “Don’t die on us.” Archie chuckles a little before he replies “Don’t worry. I win all of my battles. Cancer isn’t strong enough to win this one.”

I feel my heart explode.

My knees become weak.

I fall to the ground.

Putting my face in my palms.
