For Maddie the first year of college is going to be spent in Canada. Yeah, Canada! Insane, isn't it? She moved from Arizona to Vancouver, British Columbia a few weeks ago with her family. And by family means her dad, mom and grandmother. She doesn't have a big family although she has always wanted to have a lot of relatives so that they could all live together, it never became a reality. Her dad got a new job offer here and to say she was happy to hear this news, would be a lie. She was more than happy. As a person who had always dreamt about living in another place than Arizona and travel the world, this was a huge surprise to her and a dream come true type of thing.

It's been a week or so but she made only one friend. It was Mia. Mia Jones. A tall brunette girl with thick eyebrows and skinny legs. They met in a store where Mia works. She's eighteen and her future plans included traveling and seeing the world. How was she going to do that, she had no idea. Another friend Maddie had was Tyler. Basically she had known him for almost three years. They graduated high school together and for Maddie he was the coolest person to exist. She used to wonder how such an amazing person like him would want to become a friend of hers. Best friend, actually. She used to lay in bed at night and think how lucky she was to have a friend like Tyler. Tyler Ross. He was this tall, good looking guy that almost every girl wanted but oh, so bad for them Tyler was gay but came out to Maddie only because he was scared people would judge him at school and he didn't want any trouble. Now every night Maddie goes to bed thinking, how sad it is to live without her angel, Tyler.

"I really don't know what to expect from college." she sighed while wearing a pink shirt. She wore just a simple shirt and a blue skirt. She got accepted to a business college last week which was super exciting but also so scary. She used to deal with anxiety and making friends wasn't really easy for her. So that made her think a lot at nights. Maddie looked at herself in the mirror and then look at her grandma. She just smiled softly and hugged her from the back.

"I know you're gonna do fine honey. Everything will go fine. And you know why?" She asked with a slight smirk on her face. Maddie turned to look at her and even though she knew what her answer was going to be, still asked.

"And may I know why?"

She put her hands on Maddie's shoulders and said.

"Because you're stronger than you seem, braver than you believe and smarter than you think." A huge grin appeared on Maddie's face.

"You know how much I love you." she laughed and hugged her one more time.

"Yeah I do, but my love for you is much more sweetheart." She answered with her beautiful accent.

Maddie's phone buzzed and she looked at it. It was Mia. She invited Maddie to hang out together. This was a chance for her to make new friends so she said all the goodbye's and exited their not-so-big apartment. She saw Mia outside talking to someone. Coming closer to them her smile got even wider.

"Hey," she raised an eyebrow at Mia, which basically meant 'who is this?!' Mia understood the expression on Maddie's face and started to introduce the guy next to her.

"Oh hey," she kissed Maddie's cheek and continued. "I just saw Jacob, and he invited us to go with him to the skating park." Her smile grew even wider and Maddie looked at the guy that was in front of her. Examining every inch of his face. He had brown skin, big beautiful brown eyes that looked like they were black from afar. He was wearing a big grey hoodie and jeans with a white converse. Jacob had curly short hair, he was pretty tall, well taller than she was  maybe five inches or so. Maddie was not even tall, but if you asked her she wouldn't consider herself short either. She threw a glance at him once again and turned to Mia.

"But neither of us knows how to skate...Right?" she said slowly and from the look that Mia gave her, she understood one thing, she shouldn't have said that. Apparently Mia liked Jacob so, Maddie tried to play along. "But, I mean, that's cool that you're inviting us. It's just I thought we're going to have this day for..us. Two of us, you know." She gestured with her hands and finally finished the sentence.

"Maaan, yeah I know, but c'mon Jacob...he has a lot of friends, it's good for you to make friends. Other than me, of course. And also we have almost all summer in front of us." She looked at Maddie with such pleading eyes that as it always is, she gave up.

"Okay then, let's go." Maddie sighed and gave a her a weak smile.

"It's gonna be a lotta fun..." started Jacob and raised his eyebrows as a sign for her to say her name.

"Maddie, my name's Maddie." She corrected with a polite smile.

"Oh cool, Maddie...As I was sayin' it's gonna be a lotta fun, you'll love my friends..." And the whole time he didn't stop rambling about his friends and how cool they were.

As they made it to the destination, Maddie saw a bunch of kids her age skating. Some of them were just chilling under a tree with a beer in their hands, some of them were recording a video, some were laughing. They were just having a good time and that made her smile. It seemed like she was in her favorite movie 'Mid90s'. She  had always wanted to have friends so chill and down to Earth as in that movie.

Mia pulled her aside. Maddie looked at her with confused expression plastered on her face.

"It's just...uh...are you still mad? I know we had to spend this day together but they're pretty cool dudes and..some of the girls here are awesome as well so,.."

To be honest with you, it was weird to see her chasing after a guy cause Maddie never did that type of thing. As Tyler used to say "You're too right, Maddie, too right." Even if Maddie wasn't completely aware what Tyler meant by that, deep down she still knew he was kinda right about it. Maddie was too concentrated on school and how to make the best of this life, travel and all that fancy stuff so, she never really thought about chasing after a guy. Or well, to be honest no one ever had been interested in her so, she kinda forgot about that romantic stuff. You can consider her as a hopeless romantic though, she would fall in love with celebrities and get her heart broken every time one of them would get a new girlfriend. So, that was an enough sign for her to think she's going to die alone in the future.

"Hey, hey...Mia, who said I was mad on the first place?" she cupped Mia's face with her hands and chuckled. Yeah same good old lies. Of course, she was kinda disappointed at first but she always wants the people around her to feel happy and okay, so she did what a good friend should do, right? Even if she could feel that she's going to embarass herself in front of those cool teens by falling from the skateboard one day, she still pushed that negative thought away, to the furthest shelf of her mind.

"Alright, then let's go to the guys." Mia giggled, pulled her hand and they ran after Jacob.
