Maddie always thought that British Columbia is one of the most beautiful places on this Earth. The nature is just so gorgeous and the people are so nice which adds up to the atmoshpere. But what about her? Maddie Mackinly. Oh, Maddie Mackinly...She was seventeen and had midnight-black hair, glossy skin, slender eyebrows, her eyelashes were velvety, she had sea-nymph ears, dainty nose, shiny, halo-white teeth, her fingernails were varnished. She had a sculpted figure which was twine-thin. Her waist was tapered and she had a burnished complexion. A pair of arched eyebrows looked down on sweeping eyelashes. Her delicate ears framed a button nose. A set of dazzling, angel-white teeth gleamed as she blew gently on her fingernails which would be covered in purple nailpolish time to time. It was a pleasure to see her flowing, moon shadow-black hair. She had a bouncy personality and a sugary voice, sometimes too awkward to speak out which made her adorable. And not content to be just another drone, she wore vibrant clothes.
She was shorter than Mia actually. Maddie always compared herself to other girls, who were skinnier and taller and had it all, as she used to say. And to say that she was fighting with self-love would be the same as to say nothing. It was a battle. A bloody one. Every time standing in front of the mirror she wanted to fade away and become nothing.
But music, oh music kept her going and made her mind feel at peace.
They walked to the teens that were sitting under the trees and that would be a lie by saying that she wasn't nervous. Her hands started actually sweating and she thought she's going to have an asthma attack (even if she didn't have one). And she couldn't stop thinking about "what if they don't like me?", "what if they laugh at me cause i'm not as cool as them", "I'll just go home and cry myself to sleep". They approached Jacob and the others and started the amusing conversation.
"Hey guys," Maddie stared at Jacob who did this kind of handshake with every guy. "This is Mia, I told you about her and this is her friend Maddie. She just moved here." The girls awkwardly waved at them and Maddie could swear to God she felt how the world started spinning faster than usual. Her knees got weak and she started playing with the ends of her skirt just as a reminder that it's still real. Everything is still a reality.
"Hi, I'm Mia", Mia's voice was so loud. At least for Maddie. She started hearing those weird noises and Mia's voice seemed to be the loudest amongst them. This is when she got it. Anxiety is kicking. "We'd like to learn how to skate, would you teach us..."
Maddie pressed her lips together and she heard some silent laughters and giggles from the guys and she felt a rush of courage and bravery in her body.
"Excuse me? What's so funny?" She asked quietly, taking a step closer to them. This step made her heart beat even faster and her hands even sweatier.
"Sorry for that, they act so stupid sometimes." Jacob put his hand on her shoulder. She turned to face him and just nodded not wanting to continue this awkward moment. She looked at Mia and remembered why they were there.
"Alright guys, anyways..I'm George," a blonde boy raised his hand and smiled a toothy smile. "This is Harry, Lucas, Caleb and Richie."
The girls greet the boys and Maddie catches herself staring at the guy who's name was pronounced the last. He had white skin, which seemed like it was shining under the sun, he also had freckles, big, chocolate brownie eyes and long-long eyelashes. Black-haired and slender, wearing the huge new dust-filtering glasses. Those raven, curly hair just made her want to touch them. And as she was daydreaming about that boy George starts to speak again.
"And right there are the girls, you can go and introduce yourselves to them. They're pretty chill." he stands up, grabs his skateboard and as Maddie thought he already wanted to leave he calls out. "Guys c'mon. Rich, you comin'? "
