Maddie has been spending most of her time in her room listening to music that Richie would send. It's been a week since her mom got into the hospital and still hasn't woken up from a coma. Maddie felt awful. She felt disgusting. Couldn't sleep, eat or even go out with friends. The only person she kept talking to was Richie. He had something magical about himself that made people fall in love with him instantly. Not that Maddie was in love with him, no. It was a feeling she couldn't put into words. Every time they talked she felt like the happiest person alive and when they would stop, she would fall into that little black hole again. Which by the way, wasn't that little anyways.

Her dad spent most of his time in the hospital and promised that he's never going to leave his wife's side. Her parents had the type of love she has always dreamed to have. Today was Sunday and it was pretty hot even for Vancouver. She came home last night from the hospital and fell asleep on the couch. It was already noon when she decided to wake up from her peaceful sleep. She looked at the time on her phone and jumped off the couch. It gave her a bad headache after and she groaned. Her grandma was sleeping on the armchair next to her with a blanket on herself and Maddie smiled at that scene. She went to grab some milk from the fridge when the doorbell rang. Thinking that it's her father she ran towards the door but when she opened it she got a bit upset.

"Hey, Madd", said the girl in front of her.

"Hi," she hugged Mia and rested her chin on her shoulder.

"I'm so sorry babe, me and Jacob called you several times why weren't you answering? I got so worried," she looked at Maddie with a face full of sympathy.

"I'm okay, alright? Just wanted some alone time," said Maddie and invited her inside. She closed the door behind her and looked at Mia's face. The other one had a weak smile plastered on her face. "What?"

"You wanted some alone time, huh?" Mia crossed her arms on her chest. "Richie said you've been talking nonstop."

Maddie groaned and covered her face with her hands.

"Hey, Madds? It's okay," she put her hand on Maddie's shoulder. "I understand."

She looked up at her friend and said, "There's nothing to understand Mia. Anyways, you want iced coffee?" The other girl just nodded and they headed to the kitchen.

"Is your grandma home?"

"Yeah, she's sleeping in the living room," she grabbed a cup from the shelf and threw some ice into it.

"How's your dad?" asked Mia nervously. She does not know how to ask those questions because she doesn't know how the other girl is feeling and how she is going to react. Maybe she'll break down crying, maybe she'll tell her to fuck off. In this situation, it's better to cry and let it all out instead of pushing people away. So, Mia took the risk and started asking questions related to Maddie's mom.

"Hey, can we talk about something else? Anything else than my mom and the fucking hospital she's in?" she spit out and immediately regretted it, "God, I'm so sorry Mia. I just-" she sighed heavily fighting back the tears.  Mia put her hand on the other girl's hand and said, "You're okay Madds. We're okay. It's gonna be all good."

Was it actually going to be good? But Maddie just nodded so that they could talk about something else than that.  "So, what's up with you and Jacob?" she asked while pouring Mia's coffee into her cup.

Mia just chuckled, "What's up with us? We're friends. Good friends," and took a sip of her coffee.

"A-ha, so you wanna tell me that there's nothing between you two?" asked Maddie again while shoving a pancake into her mouth.

"He has a girlfriend, Madds," she looked away, on the wall where a beautiful picture was hanging. It was drawn by Maddie. There's a huge album filled with her amazing drawings, her dad always used to tell that maybe she should become a painter, but she didn't want to. Painting is something she just likes to do when she's sad, happy or bored. Making money out of it? Nah, she's good.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that...," she said putting the pancakes, that she was about to eat, back on her plate.

"Man it's fine. I'm not like in love with him or something," Mia chuckled while taking a sip of her coffee.

Then an awkward silence surrounded both of the girls and Mia stared right into Maddie's eyes. Maddie had already started feeling kind of weird when her grandma, who was woken up, came to the kitchen and told her that someone with the name 'Richie' is waiting for her outside. Both girls looked at each other again. Maddie stood up and started,

"I swear we just-"

"Madds, just go," laughed Mia and pushed her to the door. The other girl just sighed and exited the kitchen.

Maddie checked herself in the mirror which was also hanging on the wall in the hallway and opened the door. And maybe she felt sweaty and nauseous again when she saw his big brown eyes looking directly at her behind his glasses. His curly raven hair poking out from all the sides and the way he was glancing at her made her cheeks grow red and she doesn't usually blush that much. He wasn't Brad Pitt type of beautiful but for Maddie, he was more than just some Brad Pitt. Richie drove her crazy just by standing there. Maybe it was in the way he was dressed, he was always so stylish with his baggy jeans ripped off in some places or maybe, it was because of the huge glasses that were covering half of his face.

Richie on the other side felt kind of high. Every time seeing Maddie made him a little bit tipsy. His unconscious wouldn't allow his glassed over eyes to fixate on anything else but the perfect figure that just opened the door. He had no idea a girl could be this beautiful. She had muscles where it was attractive and curves where it counted and knew how to compliment every bit of her God-given beauty with her no make-up face. He wasn't the only one noticing those things, right? But Richie thought that she knew what she was doing and walked right into his heart as if this was a scene she's walked into a hundred times before.

"Hey Rich," she smiled widely. "What's up?"

"Hi, uh, nothing much. I just wanted to check on you, you know...How is everything?" he asked and touched his neck which was a sign that he was nervous. Maddie smiled at that scene and found the guy in front of her quite adorable.

"It's fine Rich, you wanna come in? Mia's here."

"No, thanks. I just wanted to ask you to come to the park in the evening, there's going to be like a competition and they'll announce a winner and stuff."

"I assume you're also going to take part in it?" she squinted her eyes.

The raven beauty just nodded and said, "Yes, yes I am."

"Okay, I'll see if we can come," she said but got cut off by Mia shouting from the kitchen. "We will most definitely come to see your show off Richard, thanks."

Maddie rolled her eyes while Richie just chuckled.

"It's fine, she's always like this. So, I'll see you?" he asked one last time.

"Most definitely," she laughed and the sound of it made Richie's heart skip a bit. He felt like it was going to come out of his chest and fall right into the beautiful girl's hands. He grinned widely and said, "Okay, I'll wait."

They stared at each other in silence before Mia coughed from the back, "We got the message, Romeo, you can go now," and motioned with her hand for him to leave. Maddie hit her on the shoulder and said, "I'm sorry Rich, I'll come, don't worry."

"Okay, see ya," he took one last glance at her before leaving.

Maddie closed the door and looked at Mia, "Honestly though, what's wrong with you?"

"If you're so in a hurry and want him to take your heart so quickly and rip it off after then I'm sorry for kicking him out," she bent her knee and bowed while laughing.

Maddie just rolled her eyes and went back to the kitchen.
