A/N: #yolo I actually have no idea wut I'm doing. Imma be trying some angst but it probably ain't that angsty tbh ;-;. This is probably more of a Kakyoin x Reader kinda thing or just Kakyoin being a good friend, but it involves a lot o Kakyoin action. Btw tell me if there are any spelling errors or if nothing makes any sense. This has hanahaki disease if any of u know what that is.

It all started with a little crush that blossomed into something more. Literally. The first sign you felt was the itchy feeling at your throat and then the occasional cough. Nothing too serious. Then the coughing worsened. What would only be a few seconds grew into a few minutes of relentless coughing and hacking. You thought that you had a bad virus in your throat, and that it would eventually go away. That was, until, the petals came.

The first time you coughed petals was when you were with him. He and you were close friends. You would walk home with him everyday with Kakyoin and ate lunch with him. He called you and Kakyoin the only ones tolerable to be around. It made your heart flutter just thinking about it.

You were on the roof of the school eating lunch with him and Kakyoin. It was just another school day, until you started coughing violently.

"Are you okay, (Y/N)?" Kakyoin asked after your fit of coughing. "You've been awfully sick these past few days. Maybe you should go to the nurse's office?"

"I'm fine!" You told him while trying to mask the pain you were in. Another coughing fit quickly overtook you though.

"Are you sure?" He asked worriedly.

"Ye-" You were cut off by a fit of coughing that almost brought tears to your eyes. You coughed into your hand and felt something damp in it. You looked down and your eyes widened. Your hand had blood in it, but that wasn't what really drew your attention. What drew you attention was the yellow flower petals that were tainted by your blood. You quickly closed your palm to hide the blood and petals.

"Yare yare daze. Just go to the nurse's office." Jotaro said in a slightly annoyed voice, but deep inside, you could tell that he was also worried for you.  It made your heart skip a beat, but the feeling was quickly lost within the next fit of coughing.

"I'll help you get there!" Kakyoin said. You silently nodded because you were sure that if you tried speaking again, you would cough more.

You and Kakyoin walked down to the nurse's office. You thought to yourself about the blood and petals. That definitely wasn't normal. You didn't know what the petals meant, but you did know that blood usually meant something terrible. You took a glance at Kakyoin, wondering whether you should tell him or not. In the end, you decided to tell him.

"Hey, Kakyoin." You tried saying nonchalantly, but was interrupted by a couple of coughs.

"Yes?" He looked at you with a concerned face. "Don't push yourself too hard. You've had that nasty cough for a couple of weeks now."

"I'm not..." You coughed again as Kakyoin patted your back. When you were done, you drew his attention to your closed hand. When you opened it, his eyes widened in surprise and recognition.

"D-did you just cough those up now?" He pointed at the flower petals in your hand. You nodded, wondering why he suddenly looked so scared.

"What do they mean?" You asked in a hoarse voice.

"(Y/N)..." He shook his head and sighed. "I guess it makes sense now..."

"What?" You asked.

"(Y/N)," He took a deep breath and continued. "You have the hanahaki disease."

You were silent as you processed this information. You've heard of the hanahaki disease before, but you thought that it was a made-up story. Perhaps there was some sort of mistake? But as you thought about your symptoms more thoroughly, you realized that everything matched up. The hanahaki disease was a flower disease that grew inside of the victim's heart and lungs because of one-sided love, causing them to cough up flower petals. You knew that there were 2 ways to cure it. Either to get your feelings returned by the person you love, or get it surgically removed.
