I stood there frozen at what I was witnessing, the man who was helping us was shot. The man who was risking his life to help us was killed.
He was shot in the head.
This was not processing in my head very well, I stared unable to move and unable to talk. I did not even notice the tears streaming down my face.
"Arms up!" someone shouts. It was the Arcane guards, making themselves present and they stood nearly on top of Angus's dead body. "Drop your weapons!"
No one moved.
"You want a bullet in your head? Drop your fucking weapons. NOW!"
The boys did as they were told, I forced myself to do as they were ordering, rising my arms up.
"Now move!" the guard shouts.
We did as we were ordered, I forced myself to move, with every step it was numb, I could not look at Dylan who stood beside me and there was no way I was going to look at a tear face Colin who had snot dripping down his nose. I kept my eyes down praying for a miracle, praying for anything.
We were led over to where groups of other people were kneeling down, some were sobbing, some were glaring, they were all covered in sweat, blood, and ash from the fires that surrounded us. We were forced in the front row of one group and forced to kneel.
"Shit..." Dylan mutters, I finally looked up at him but he was staring at another group, I followed his look to see Brandon there looking down at the ground. His left arm was covered in blood, he had been shot.
"We've got to do something," I heard Hunter say to Nick.
"I'm out of ideas," Nick says.
I lowered my eyes trying to come up with some amazing plan but instead, I just prayed that someone would come to our aid, maybe Brandon radioed Vincent?
The noise from the air was coming down, I looked up in time to see the helicopter landed and the doors opened revealing Damon walking out with a smirk on his face.
"What do we have?" he asks an Arcane guard in a loud clear voice looking around at all the people kneeling before him, he probably felt like he was king.
"We're checking them now sir," the Arcane guard responds.
It was then that I noticed that there were a few guards holding up devices and checking people's eyes, to see if they were immunes or not. One guard grabs Nick by the hair.
"Don't fucking touch him," Hunter growls going to stand but the Arcane guard released Nick punching Hunter, Hunter fell back onto Colin who quickly grabbed Hunter. The guard grabs Nick again rougher than the first time and checked him.
"Not-Immune," the device spoke in a robot voice.
The guard goes to Hunter who was not kneeling again rubbing his jaw. The guard roughly grabs his hair forcing him to look up. The device scans his eyes.
"Immune" the device spoke.
"Looks like you were never Arcane property... don't worry, we'll be spending a lot of time together pal," the guard chuckles pushing Hunter back. Hunter just glared, his eye was starting to darken.
Colin was next, the guard roughly grabs Colin's hair and does the same thing.
"Immune," the device says. "Subject B19."
"Glad to be going home?"
Colin did not say anything causing the guard to chuckle again.
The guard releases him and next up is me. He grabs a fistful of my hair forcing me to look up. I was tempted to spit but he had his helmet on so the effect would not be as great.
"Immune," the device says. "Subject A7."
The guard looks at the device and looks at me, he releases me and turns to Damon.
"Damon's been waiting for you," he says before shouting, "Subject A7 Damon!"
Damon looks to see me, frowns a little but shifted to a smile and makes his way over, I readied myself for whatever Damon was about to do. If he had been waiting for me, he would not doubt hurt me.
"Ah Avery," Damon says when he stood in front of me. "So nice to see you again."
I did not respond.
His smiling expression twisted to one that was full of rage, he grabs a fistful of my hair pulling me up. I screamed as he shoved me to the ground.
"Damon!" Dylan growls. "Don't fucking touch her!"
Damon turns just now noticing Dylan. "Oh, and you..." without another word he punches Dylan in the face a couple of times. "I really should kill you."
Dylan who now was bleeding from his nose and the corner of his mouth smiles.
"Do it," he dares him.
Damon straightens up. "No can do, promised Jaxon he'd have you all to himself" and then turns to me. "And man, don't I wanna kill you."
I slowly got to my feet. "And why is that?"
Damon tilts his head to the side observing me. "No one gets away with making me look like an idiot."
"But I am immune, you can't kill me."
"I could care less if you were immune if I want to kill you, I will."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Great, you can go right ahead and tell Linda why you will be bringing back Subject A7 as a corpse. Pretty sure you'd be eaten by an infected because of that failure."
"Little bitch," Damon hits me, I fell with a thud.
Dylan leaps to his feet grabbing Damon and punched him in the face, Arcane guards grabbed Dylan forcing him back.
Damon stumbled back rubbing his face, a smile spread across his face. He looks at Dylan before looking back at me. I glanced at Dylan - we were both not thinking straight and acting out instead, if we want to survive we need to act better.
"Oh..." he looks between Dylan and I. "This is interesting."
My breathing quickened, just because I looked at Dylan did not mean anything, I am terrified and Dylan was the only one who has been there for me this entire time. Damon walks over to me tapping his gun at the side of his leg looking at me, debating something. He grabs me around the neck tightly aiming the gun at my head, Dylan and the others gasp.
"Or maybe I should just kill her," Damon says smiling as he only watches Dylan. "Would be such a waste... but yet again, when Jaxon learns the new information I just got right here, maybe he can have a bit more fun with you both..." He laughs.
The next words that left my mouth, I did not intend to say.
"You keep pointing your gun at me and going on and on about how you want to kill me just to get back at Dylan and myself for the times we made both you and Jaxon look like complete idiots. I'm sorry but I am starting to doubt your commitment here Damon," I tell Damon who tightens his grip around my throat.
"Don't tempt me, bitch," he whispers in my ear and says a little louder, "load the immunes on the helicopter. Including that one," he points to Dylan. "Kill the rest."
Damon tosses me, I hit someone I looked up to see that it was an Arcane guard.
They were going to send me back to Arcane, Linda was right.
"NO!" I screamed fighting against him. He struggled against me, he lifted me up. I thrashed around screaming and shouting threats.
Suddenly gunshots echoed through the area, the man who held me cried out. His grip loosened and we fell forward, he was laying on top of me.
Dead.
