I drove as fast as I could to get to the hospital. Lucky for me their weren't any police on the way this time.I got out of my car and slammed the door. I ran inside to the front desk asking what room they were in. I walked quietly and quickly to room 362 and pushed open the door slowly. I walked in and quietly pushed the door closed until I heard the click.
"How is he?" I asked my best friend, tiff.
"He's better."
"What happened?" I questioned and sat down in the room chair beside her.
"He got into a car crash with some drunk dude."
We both sat their and watched our best guy friend, Luke, lay there on the hospital bed. Felt like hours. Listening to the steady beep of his heart through the heart monitor. Silently hoping he would just wake up and smile like he always does.
The nurse walked in. I turned to look at her.
"You kids need to go home for school. You can visit afterwards." She stated.
I checked the time on my phone. 11:48. I picked up my bag from beside me and shrugged it on. "Ok, come on tiff."
"Yeah, um ok.. let's go," she said in a very depressing way and I sighed.

My phone alarm rang and I sat up. I blinked a few times to wake up. I hit the stop button on my phone and sighed. Slowly I got up and dressed in something beside my pjs. I decided to just do something easy and comfortable. Just jeans and a tee shirt. I grabbed my phone and bag from beside my bed and walked downstairs, for the kitchen.
Justin looked at me. "I made waffles!" He grinned. I smiled back knowing he doesn't ever make breakfast... and I love waffles.
"Great! I'm starving," Caleb said walking into the kitchen to stand beside me. I rolled my eyes and laughed under my breath.
"Well we better hurry up and eat," I smiled. "Don't want you to be late for school." They groaned in unison.
My dad walks in and smiles. He's in his usual business suit, telling me he's going to leaving soon for work.
"Hello, how are my beautiful children doing?" He says smiling even more and Justin and I laugh as Caleb stares in confusion.
"Great, they're broken" Caleb says before shoving waffle in his mouth.
After a while I slowly calm down and steady my breathing from my laughing fit. Justin following shortly behind in his actions. Caleb dumps his plate in the sink and grabs his bag walking out the door leaving me and Justin confused. I look at dad and he shrugs taking a waffle from my plate.
"Hey!" I say half yelling and screaming. "That's mine!"
He looks at me before saying "and I payed for the thing, you'll live."
At that I stomp off pulling on my converses and grabbing my bag, heading out the door. Justin following shortly behind me.

The next few weeks went ok. It was like a routine. Wake up. School. Homework. Hospital. I barely had anything to eat. I avoided people as much as possible, trying to 'lay low' for a while. I sat in the back of classes and took notes. I stayed in my room reading, trying to escape reality, for hours. Doing extra work to stay busy. Tiff and I didn't talk much at lunch. We would sit silently by ourselves. I didn't eat lunch anymore either. Slowly cutting down on food, while doing my best to smile and laugh to make sure no one asked questions or noticed my pain. Making sure no one bothered me.
I didn't want to be anywhere, but the hospital. My dad would make me stay home some nights. "You have to do something with us and not just cry all after noon in you bedroom, lex." He would always say. "You have to stop crying."
I didn't listen.
Not once.
I know I should have, I know. But I didn't. I wanted Luke to be ok. Really bad. I know Tiff missed him more then me, but he was my best guy friend. What else am I supposed to think? What else am I supposed to do?
I just sat their thinking about it for hours on end until I passed out on the floor beside my door.
I woke up late a 2 Monday's later from when it had happened. I was feeling my usual depressed self from the accident. I sat up on the cold floor, my shoulders aching from sleeping on the floor again. I yawned, slowly getting up. Realization hit me. It's Monday.
I hurried up and changed from my cloths I fell asleep in from yesterday. Wearing a huge lime green hoodie, that made me look like a dwarf, and comfy blue jeans. I slipped on a pair of my white converses and headed down stairs to the kitchen.
"Hey Alex!" Was yelled from the living room.
I turned on my heals and headed that way.
"Hey Justin," I said. And turned around to walk back out of the room.
"Uhhh lex, I need help with something."
I froze in my place. Their was a short silence. I broke it.
"Is it math? You know I can't help you with that," I said still facing the other way.
"N-no," He stuttered.
"Then what?" I turn around to face him.
"A uh.. a girl." He looked away.
I smiled a lot at that. I was kind of excited about being the one to help. Justin usually didn't need help with them, they just simply liked him. But unless...
"You like her and you don't know if she likes you, do you?" I asked. He shook his head. "Ok, well bring her flowers and tell her. That's the only way you will know. Just," I pointed at his cloths. "Not in that, something a little nicer, but not... well, what is she like?"
"Her name is Anna. She is kinda like you, but she loves going out side. A lot," he smiled.
I noded. "Ok, yeah something a little fancier, no tux." I turned around and headed to food. And smiled. But not before I could hear him whisper "thanks."
