1.) Luke was supposed to be an empath??

In the original draft of in my blood- when I was still playing around with a few plots- I had one called Empath. In which Stiles' childhood friend was secretly an empath.
Very inspired by Caleb from The Bright Sessions. Being able to feel other people's emotions but feeling them in hues and smells. Like Stiles' anxiety to Luke would be a soft yellow that smothers him and tastes bitter.

I wanted to keep it when I swapped over but I thought I would keep Luke human since I'm very sick of these stories where the main character is a supernatural creature or becomes one by the end.

2.) Stiles was supposed to be a rebound!

Once I finally got it figured out that I wanted Luke to be human (and not childhood friends with our boy) I wanted Luke to be dragged into the supernatural because he was with stiles. But not because of love.
I wanted Luke and stiles to almost hook up at Lydia's party because Luke is hurt about being dumped and well- Stiles was near? I didn't have it fully planned out so I sorta ditched the idea.

3.) Lydia and Scott's kissing scene was cut.

In this scene, Lydia kisses Scott and Stiles finds out remember?

Well in this book I actually cut this scene out. It was going to be there and I was going to have Luke comfort him, but then it didn't match up with where I wanted the characters to go. I feel like in Luke's mind- being there and seeing what the kiss did to stiles would always nag at the back of his head. So I felt it was better to cut it.

4.) Very dark themes.

For this book I didn't want to make it super light hearted with a few scary bits. I wanted a lot more darker themes. I wanted to make it a different then other fanfics but I realised it might have put people off.

5.) Luke was supposed to die.

I'll be honest this is sort of a last minute change to the book (by a few months)

Luke was supposed to die at peters hands at the end of this book. He goes missing before Stiles finds Lydia. Crammed into the trunk of peters car next to the nurses dead body. Peter convives stiles to do everything with the promise of hurting Luke if he doesn't.

And then- just because he can. Peter rips Luke's throat out.

It was mainly because I was super sick of fairytale endings

It was mainly because I was super sick of fairytale endings. There's a monologue at the end of Stolen Century by Griffin McElroy.

" When someone leaves your life, those exits are not made equal. Some are beautiful and poetic and satisfying. Others are abrupt and unfair. But most are just unremarkable, unintentional, and clumsy. "

I think about it a lot and it was so important when writing it. The abrupt, unintentional and unfairness of Luke just being gone with no completely satisfactory ending.

Who knows- might happen in another book.
