THE REJECTS OF GREEN BAY
SEASON 1: EPISODE 1
pilot."GWEN! COME SEE THE NEWS." Tyler shouted from the living room. Gwen still in her pyjamas by 12 noon, ran to the living room with a bowl of cereal in her hand. She then sat on the rug in front of the TV while Tyler her younger brother increased the volume.
"Our town, Green Bay will be holding a singing competition which will be funded by the president himself with a price of $100,000 for the winner of the competition. Furthermore the elite founders would be sponsoring fifteen groups during the contest. To be selected by the founders I encourage everyone to audition. Thank you." The mayor said in a very formal manner.
"O my God!" Gwen shouted flinging her hands into the air thereby causing her cereal to spill. She ignored the mess she had made and got up facing her brother. "Do you know what this means?" she questioned excitedly.
He nodded positively but still awaiting an answer.
"We get to be rich!" Gwen screamed trying to contain herself.
"You know you have to audition right?" He said in a questioning manner, raising a brow.
"Obviously." She stated feeling more relaxed now and trying to clean up the mess, as the picks up the cereal that fell on the rug into her mouth.
"Gwen you can't sing!" Tyler shouted, waving his arms up in the air. She gave him an eyeroll, definitely not in support of his motion.
"I can, I just need a little more practice" Gwen said calmly with all confidence in her, could sense the hope in her voice.
"You're just gonna end up embarrassing yourself Gwen. It's not worth it." Tyler still debated trying to discouraged her but Gwen was bent on auditioning.
That was one of her good qualities, she was always determined to do whatever she had set her mind on. And this wasn't something she was going to give up on.
She stormed upstairs to her room feeling annoyed by her brother as he supposedly followed her in.
"What to wear?" Gwen thought aloud.
"I need to wear something says this chic loves music and is music." She picked out from her wardrobe a white T-shirt that had the words 'I love music' written on it."Don't tell me you really want to wear that." Tyler commented on the shirt while sitting on her master size bed.
"Why can you just support me for once in your life." Gwen groaned and tossed the shirt to his face.
"I just said not to wear that. Nothing more." Tyler snickered, as he flinged the shirt off his face.
She sighed and turned to him. "Okay fashionista. What do you suggest I should wear." She said to him displaying her wardrobe.
Tyler walked up to the closet and scanned it carefully. "Hmm." He tapped his lower lip with his index finger. "How about this?" He drew out a hanger revealing a flay coral dress.
"This is neat." She nodded. "But I don't want to look like a princess, I want to look a teenage pop princess." She waved off the dress and sat down on her huge, lavender vanity.
"Maybe you should just wait for mom to pick out what you'd wear." Tyler shrugged.
"No, no, no. Never." She disagreed. "I might end up looking like the puke of a fairy who ate candies and rainbows."
"Firstly, too much information sis. Secondly the audition is tomorrow so you better start thinking about it."
Gwen sighed and stared at herself through the vanity mirror as she bit her nails, a habit she cultivated whenever she was tensed up or on the edge. She looked back at the coral dress her younger brother still had in his hand.
"Guess I would be going with the dress then." She finally made up her mind. All she needed to do was buy a form and decide on a song.
Decisions and more decisions.
---
Gwen took off her shoes, happy and glad to have bought the form for the contest. Laying down on her bed, she contemplated on her song choice.
She checked her playlist for songs she was really good at singing. While scrolling through songs she stopped at Breathing by Ariana Grande.
This could do, she thought to herself before she began singing.
"Feel my blood running, swear the sky's falling. How do I know if all this shit fabricated. Time goes by and I can't control my mind, Don't know what else to try but you told me everytime. Just keep breathin n breathin n breathin n breathin..."
Gwen stopped singing. "Ugh I don't really vibe this song, plus Ari's high pitch can't be beaten." She began scanning through her playlist again before stopping at In my blood by Shawn Mendes.
"Help me, it's like the walls are craving in. Sometimes I feel like giving up no medicine is strong enough, someone help me, I'm crawling in my skin. Sometimes I feel like giving up but I just can't it isn't in my blood." Gwen sang with so much passion with her extremely hoarse voice as she stopped clearing her dry throat.
She wasn't a prefect singer, but she could try.
"Dinner is ready." Tyler said opening her bedroom door interrupting her singing.
"I'll be down soon." she responded dismissing him but he walked into her room and sat down beside her on the bed.
"Who said you could enter?" She questioned him rhetorically.
He sighed ignoring her question and put a gentle pat on her shoulder. "You're going to do well, I know it." Tyler said giving her a reassuring smile.
"Thank you." Gwen beamed form ear to ear at his sudden confidence in her.
"But if you don't, you'll always be Guinevere the annoying sister I am stuck with." He laughed heavily and mockingly, with a playful slap on the back, he stormed out of her room.
"Hey! I'm gonna catch you." She got off her bed and chased him down the hallway.
