He couldn't feel anything anymore.

It was all just a black, empty sky, devoid of light to guide him.

All of it, except for one star.

One star that shone brightly, so bright it fact it was almost blinding.

The amount of power one simple shy boy held was incredible, and Kaito couldn't help but fall for it.

This boy, with his beautiful navy hair, that rivaled the ocean with its deep color, and shy gray eyes that could only rarely be seen behind his often worn black cap had completely stolen away his heart.

And he couldn't possibly reveal it.

Kaito had a lot of secrets. He knew it, and he could hardly live with himself for keeping them, but he wouldn't be able to share them either.

The first, and hardest to cover up was his condition. He had been diagnosed with clinical depression quite a while back, but he refused to let anyone know. It was hard, but by acting stupid and oblivious, he managed.

Still, it was difficult to cover up his second secret, which resided on both of his arms. While most people cut to feel, he did something a bit worse.

All it took was a candle, or even a simple match to scorch his skin, but it was more than enough to make him feel something.

He covered up this secret somewhat effectively with a dress shirt and wearable blanket that he refused to take off at all times, no matter the weather or circumstances.

The third, and most troubling secret was his crush as of two years ago. They'd met through a friend of a friend, and had gotten relatively comfortable with one another, so much so that he'd gone and fallen in love.

But who could blame him? Shuichi Saihara was the definition of the stars and moon. The definition of the universe itself. No, Shuichi Saihara was much greater than the universe. He was perfect to no ends.

Kaito loved everything about the shy boy, from the way he stuttered when nervous, to the way he would blush ever so slightly whenever the door was held open for him.

He loved that he'd hide behind his bangs after saying something witty that wasn't meant to be heard, and he loved how his eyes would sparkle brighter than the stars when he talked about an online mystery he was trying to solve.

Shuichi was the smartest person he'd ever met, solving even the most difficult situations in mere minutes. This fact only made Kaito admire him even more than before, and there was still more Kaito loved about him.

Every so often, when he hung out with friends, he'd take the cap off, letting that one odd clump of hair stick up, like a beacon of pride. Like a beacon to happiness.

And when he wasn't at school, Shuichi often wore the most adorable hoodies, oftentimes ones with animal prints on them that Kaito loved seeing so much.

Too bad he was too much of a pain in the ass to ever be able to hang out with Shuichi.

Shuichi wouldn't ever, ever be able to reciprocate his feelings.

After all, who would love depressed trash that burns himself on a daily basis and lies about his entire being? Exactly. No one. Not a single person. Hell, even Kaito couldn't love that person.

Maybe because that person was himself.

Still, it didn't change the fact that he could never, in all his life, be with someone as perfect as-

*beep beep beep beep*

The steading beeping resounded in his ears, and he knew he'd stayed up all night thinking about it again.
