The Long Task

Throughout their life and service, many followers of Christ encounter the command to wait on the Lord, to be still, and to rest content in the faithfulness of God. However, in this often long and testing time, many questions arise. What does waiting on the Lord look like? Are there things that should or should not be done when waiting? What does Godly waiting even mean?

The Bible often talks about waiting and thus gives many good examples and rich contexts in which to examine what waiting looks like. To fully understand the context in which waiting was understood during the times it was recorded in the Bible, it is necessary to look at the original languages. In the Old Testament there are twenty-eight words translated in some form of "to wait" and ten words in the New Testament, however, only the words most relevant to waiting on the Lord will be addressed here.
