I let out a puff of air as I felt one of my cats jump on my stomach. He let out a long, monotone meow, reminding me of a probably empty food bowl. I groaned, pushed him off me, and rolled onto my side. Last night really wore me out. I wasn't able to go to sleep for quite a while, tossing and turning as Norman's offer ran through my head. Not only that, but Poppy, who slept on my couch, was the loudest snorer I have ever heard. I could hear her all night through a closed door. Needless to say, I wanted to sleep in for as long as I could. Although, technically, I don't sleep. It was more like recharging. A much needed recharge, I guess.
I was just letting my eyes close when Poppy burst into my room, slamming the already open door even wider.
"Good morning sleeping death! Or I guess it's more afternoon. Oh well, no time like the present to hunt down the undead!"
I glared at her from my cocoon of sheets and comforters. "Why the hell are you so full of energy. You only slept five hours."
She grinned at me. "I could run on two if needed. Perks of being a witch."
I slammed my head back on my pillow. "Go hunt the undead by yourself, I need sleep."
She started to drag my legs from under the covers. "But I need your help to do it. Plus it's no fun if I'm by myself."
I grabbed the wooden bars on my headboard. "No way chica. I already spent enough of my time and energy helping you last night. I am not wasting more precious sleep. Plus Norman got him, remember? So it's hopeless."
She strained for a while with my legs and then let them go, huffing. "It is not hopeless. It's just a little more difficult that's all. We can find Norman no problem. He can't be that hard to find right?"
I gave her a dry chuckle as I situated my body on the mattress. "He may be an idiot, but he knows how to hide. It usually takes at least five monster hunters to find the son of a bitch. And then even more to take down his stupid goonies. There's no way a low class demon and a witch, who won't risk ruining her nails, can take him down." I threw the covers over my head and mentally begged her to leave.
The mattress sunk as she sat down. "Look I'm sorry ok? I didn't know this would happen. I thought it would be a simple bury and run, but it wasn't. "
I turned my head to see her. Her head was low as her hands rested on her knees. I knew this pose all too well. The "Look at How Pitiful I Am and Feel Guilty Into Giving Me What I Want" pose. I hated it. Because I always gave in.
I let out an annoyed sigh before sliding out of bed to put some pants on. "Fine. I'll help. But you're debt is piling up so much you'll owe me for the next two centuries."
She hopped up with a squeal and jumped as she hugged me. "I knew you'd help! You're the most wonderfulest friend in the world!"
I shoved her arms off and finished getting dressed. "Yeah, yeah. You're buying breakfast."
