Hermione's P.O.V
We all filed into the great hall. The first years were sorted 11 new Gryffindors. Professor mcgonagall have a speech and we ate as simple as that.
"Ronald chew with your mouth CLOSED!" I rolled my eyes at him. He rolled his back. And people wonder why we didn't last as a couple. We carried on talking when mcgonagall rose for her seat. We all fell quiet. Can all years 1-6 please exit the hall I would like to talk to the 7th years.
Everyone filed out to there common rooms while we sat and waited.
"Right," professor mcgonagall started "I want you all to know I am very sorry about this I tried to stop it but I couldn't." Her face flooded with grief. Me and Ginny exchanged worried looks.
"As you know there has been a new law set. This is because of the rapid decrease of population since the war. The ministry has created a marriage law." A gentle buzz of confusion spread across us, "silence please everyone. This means that everyone between 17-35 will be paired up with there "soulmate". They will be expected to be engaged by Christmas, married by July 31st and be pregnant or have a child by 2 years after that. This includes you lot I'm afraid. You will all get letters tomorrow telling you your soulmate, your living quarters and the amount of children you will have to have." This was the last straw for Ginny.
"AMOUNT OF KIDS!!!!!!! IM NOT BEING AN OBJECT USED TO BREED!!!" She screeched, many people joining in.
"SILENCE! I am so sorry this has happened like I said, however the M.O.M has stated that if anyone does not agree to this they will spend a year in Azkaban, have their wand snapped and sent to be a muggle." She muttered.
Poor lady she obviously didn't want this to happen. Everyone else must have thought the same as me as they all sat there meekly. Even the Slytherins.
"You will revive your letters tomorrow. You may go." The poor witch looked as if she was going to cry. We all left, went straight to bed. No one knew what to do. All we did know is that it's going to be hard.
