Catalina POV

I walked out of the portal into the New York Institute, where I was greeted by Alec, Izzy, Jace, Simon, Magnus and Clary. Alec had a heavily disapproving look on his face, indicating that he didn't want to be here, but he was anyway. He then said, "Are you here to take over my position as head of the institute? If you are, get out." I sighed, and said, "Alexander, I am merely here to question Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern." He nodded, and made way for me to go downstairs. As we entered the room, Jonathan looked up, his eyes seeming to light up. As I saw him, his eyes were the most beautiful sky blue colour, with soft flecks of green and gold.

Clary removed the mask from his face, and his eyes dampened, losing their light. I looked up, and said, "Jonathan, I am Catalina Blackthorn, and I am from the Clave, here to question you regarding the Morning Star Sword." He lifted his head, and said "I know of it, however, I know nothing of its whereabouts". I cocked my head to the side, and gave him the look that said, "I know that you know something". He looked away, and tried to wipe his eyes, however, due to the restraints placed on his wrists, he could not. I felt a pang of sympathy ebb at my heart, and I wiped my face quickly and discreetly, so as not to let my emotions cloud the judgement I had to make. He said softly, "I only want to talk to Catalina". I nodded to Alec, and everyone left the room, leaving me alone with Jonathan.

I walked into his cell, and he looked at me, the light returning to his eyes, and I finally realised why I felt such a connection to him. He was the boy in the burning tower. He had a pleading look in his eyes, as though he really did want to be saved. I could see the child inside him, who just wanted to be loved, to be held, to be told he was wanted, and cared for. He whispered, "My princess." That was what did it. I sank to my knees in tears, my face becoming wet with warm tears. After what seemed like an eternity, I pulled my heavy soul from the floor, and undid the cuffs and his restraints, letting him stand freely. He pulled his sleeves over his hands, and looked me in the eyes, as though he was trying to see into my soul, and I was an open book, wearing my heart on my sleeve for the world to see.

He moved towards me, and I heard footsteps outside, they must've been watching the security cameras, waiting for him to make a move on me. His hand rested upon my cheek, and he said quietly, "Thank You, my princess," and the guards entered, standing behind me. I motioned for them to leave, as he was acting normally. They left, extremely cautiously, as I was alone with an alleged criminal. He looked at me with such sadness, and remorse, as he uttered these words, "I just wanted my sister back" I looked at him, and I could tell his soul was weary, and tired. He hadn't been himself lately. Possibly possession, or maybe he did do this of his own accord. If he did, he was liable for quite a few murders here and there across Brooklyn. However, if he was possessed, he wouldn't be liable, and he would be a free man, provided Lilith was bound to Edom for all eternity.

He'd definitely pulled a few heartstrings, very much unwitting, and I made the best judgement I could. Let him go, but he needed to attend at least a year of rehab, to make up for the time he spent in Edom with Lilith. Clary came over to me, and said, "Why did you let him go? He's evil?!" I remained calm, and simply said, "Put yourself into his shoes, you've spent what seems like eternity in Edom, and you've been told no one loves you for so long, and out of the blue, you're told you have a sibling, albeit they know nothing about you, but it gives you some glimmer of hope in the darkest of tunnels, and when you return to Earth, you're possessed, and blackmailed into hurting them, when all you really wanted was to be loved, a roof over your head, and someone to tell you they needed you." She sighed, and walked away, debating her earlier judgement, while I proceeded to go to see Magnus Bane. As soon as I knocked on the door, a young woman ran up to me, and I smiled, hugging her. She was my best friend. He smiled, and said, "Cecilia, calm down" I laughed, and pouted. He looked at me, and said, "Oh Catalina, what am I going to do with you?"
